Do you still remember the confiscation of 3 orangutan babies on August 1st? Based on COP’s investigation, the Aceh National Police with the assistant from COP and OIC have raided a warehouse in Langsa. COP work to ensure that the trader would get maximum penalty. We want him to be jailed for 5 years according to Law number 5 year 1990. We sent the letter to Great Attorney in Jakarta to consider this case as priority and need proper monitoring.

Today, the High Attorney of Aceh conduct crime scene reconstruction as the legal process before the case goes to court. Following instruction from Attorney, 3 confiscated babies being transported to crime scene location today by a team from SOCP and OIC.

Masih ingat penyitaan 3 bayi orangutan pada tanggal 1 Agustus? Berdasarkan penyelidikan COP dan Polda Aceh dengan dukungan COP dan OIC menggerebek rumah pedagang satwa liar di Langsa. COP terus bekerja untuk memastikan si pelaku mendapatkan hukuman maksimal, 5 tahun penjara seperti yang diamanatkan UU No.5 Tahun 1990. Kami telah mengirim surat ke Kejaksaan Agung di Jakarta untuk mempertimbangkan kasus ini sebagai prioritas dan karena itu membutuhkan pemantauan yang memadai.

Pada hari ini Kejaksaan Aceh menggelar rekonstruksi lapangan sebagai bagian dari proses hukum sebelum kasus dikirimkan ke pengadilan. Mengikuti instruksi Jaksa, pada hari ini SOCP dan OIC memberangkat 3 bayi sitaan tersebut ke Langsa.

Aceh’s Natural Resource Conservation Organisation (BKSDA) has succeeded in arresting a suspected wild life trader in Langsa, East Aceh.  In the operation, the team confiscated 3 (three) orangutan, 3 (two) Brahminy Kites, 1 (one) Kuau King bird and I (one) protected clouded leopard. The suspect was detained in the Police Head Quarters in Aceh.

“This operation is the first of its kind in Aceh. The success of this operation is thanks to the solid support from the regional police team, OIC from Medan and COP from Jakarta.  The next major task is ensuring the suspect is punished to the full extent of the 5th law under the 1990 Conservation of Natural Resources and Ecosystem Act.” , stated Genman Hasibuan, the Head of BKSD Aceh.

Daniek Hendarto, Manager of the Anti-Crimes against Wild Life from the Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) explained “The mother of the three infants which were confiscated had obviously been killed by the poachers.  Without the establishment of harsh laws, orang-utans will continue to die in this manner.  A light sentence will only make the perpetrators return to their business because the potential profit is so large. From the hands of a poacher, a trader can receive between 500 thousand to 1 million rupiah and then can sell the animal on the market for 5 to 10 million rupiah.  On the international market, the price of an orangutan can be estimated at 400 million rupiah

“The majority of animals which are traded have been taken from the wild including the Leuser Ecosystem. Poaching and trading often causes suffering and unnecessary death for the wild life and disturbs the ecosystem. It is time that Indonesia seriously fights this crime. OIC will mobilise all of its potential so that the suspect receives the maximum punishment, that is 5 years imprisonment and a fine of 100 million rupiah.”, asserted  Panut Hadisiswoyo, Director of the Orangutan Information Centre.

So far, in the year 2015, COP has already exposed 2 cases of orangutan trade online. 4 infant orang-utans have already been saved along with tens of birds and other mammals associated with these cases. PEDAGANG DITANGKAP BKSDA ACEH, 3 BAYI ORANGUTAN SELAMAT

Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam (BKSDA) Aceh berhasil menjebak seorang tersangka pedagang satwa liar di Langsa, Aceh Timur. Dalam operasi tersebut, tim menyita 3 (tiga) orangutan, 2 (dua) elang bondol, 1 (satu) burung kuau raja dan 1 (satu) awetan macan dahan. Tersangka langsung ditahan di markas Polda Aceh.

“Operasi ini merupakan yang pertama kali dilakukan di Aceh. Suksesnya operasi ini berkat dukungan tim yang solid dari Polda, OIC dari Medan dan COP dari Jakarta. Tugas berat selanjutnya adalah memastikan tersangka mendapatkan hukuman seberat – beratnya sesuai dengan Undang – Undang Nomor 5 Tahun 1990 mengenai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Hayati dan Ekosistemnya.”, kata Genman Hasibuan, Kepala BKSDA Aceh

Daniek Hendarto, Manager Anti Kejahatan Satwa Liar dari Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) menjelaskan, “Induk dari 3 bayi orangutan yang disita, jelas sudah dibunuh oleh pemburunya. Tanpa penegakan hukum yang keras, korban orangutan akan terus berjatuhan. Hukuman yang ringan hanya akan membuat para penjahat kembali ke bisnisnya karena keuntungannya sangat besar. Dari tangan pemburu, seorang pedagang mendapatkan harga antara 500 ribu hingga 1 juta rupiah dan kemudian dijualnya di pasaran seharga 5 sampai 10 juta rupiah. Di pasaran internasional, harga bayi orangutan ditaksir 400 jutaan rupiah.”

“Hampir sebagian besar satwa liar yang diperdagangan adalah tangkapan dari alam, termasuk dari Ekosistem Leuser. Perburuan dan perdagangan seringkali menimbulkan penderitaan dan kematian yang tidak perlu pada satwa liar dan mengacaukan ekosistem. Sudah saatnya Indonesia serius memerangi kejahatan ini. OIC akan mengerahkan segenap potensinya agar si tersangka bisa mendapatkan hukuman maksimal, yakni penjara 5 tahun dan denda 100 juta rupiah.”, tegas Panut Hadisiswoyo, Direktur Orangutan Information Centre

Selama tahun 2015 ini, COP telah membongkar 2 kasus perdangangan orangutan secara online. Ada 4 bayi orangutan yang telah diselamatkan dan puluhan burung serta belasan mamalia lainnya dalam kasus perdagangan tersebut.
