FINALLY, LANA COMES BACK HOME

Seven hours on the road and river finally brought back orangutan Lana to Sungai Lesan Conservatory Park, East Borneo. Orangutan Lana is a male orangutan rescued by APE Defender last November. Lana was forced to enter the farms and plantation fields because his habitat was destroyed. Field opening for palm plantation pushed Lana to eat palm sprouts. Lana also had to eat fruits from villager’s farm.

“Lana is still very wild. We do not want to keep him any longer. We are worried he will get used to human and being fed. Today on December 10th 2016, orangutan Lana, is being released in Sungai Lesan Conservatory Park.” Stated DVM. Eliz, APE Guardian.

Orangutan translocation is not an easy job. The main concern is choosing the forest for orangutan’s new habitat, and the next thing is how to reach the agreed location. This is all about teamwork. Thanks to KPHP West Berau, OWT, Head of Lesan Dayak Village, Cultural Chief of Lesan Dayak Village, Koramil, POice Chief of Kelay, BKSDA Berau and people of Lesan Dayak that have always been able to protect and preserve the conservatory park through orangutan, which played the role as umbrella species for the forest itself and other wildlife.

LANA PUN KEMBALI KE HUTAN

Tujuh jam perjalanan darat dan sungai akhirnya mengantarkan orangutan Lana ke Hutan Lindung Sungai Lesan, Kalimantan Timur. Orangutan Lana adalah orangutan jantan yang dievakuasi tim APE Defender akhir November yang lalu. Lana terpaksa masuk ke ladang masyarakat karena hutan sebagai habitatnya telah habis. Pembukaan perkebunan kelapa sawit memaksa Lana memakan tunas muda pohon kelapa sawit. Lana juga terpaksa memakan buah di kebun masyarakat.

“Lana masih sangat liar sekali. Kami tidak ingin menahannya lebih lama lagi. Kawatir, dia terbiasa dengan dengan manusia dan diberi makanan, 10 Desember 2016 ini, orangutan Lana, kami lepaskan di Hutan Lindung Sungai Lesan.”, ujar drh Eliz, APE Guardian.

Translokasi orangutan bukanlah hal yang mudah. Pemilihan hutan sebagai habitat baru orangutan tersebut adalah persoalan yang utama. Selanjutnya, upaya untuk mencapai lokasi yang dimaksud. Ini semua adalah kerja keras tim. Terimakasih KPHP Berau Barat, OWT, Kepala Desa Lesan Dayak, Kepala Adat Lesan Dayak, Koramil, Kepa Polsek Kelay, BKSDA Berau dan masyarakat Lesan Dayak untuk menjaga kelestarian hutan lindung lewat orangutan yang merupakan spesies payung untuk hutan dan satwa liar lainnya.

ENRICHMENT KUPATAN

The point is, Enrichment makes them busy, think, learn, and find out how to enjoy their food, especially for orangutans in enclosure or cage. A simple way with a little creativity and media can enrich the variation to serve the food.
There is always Ketupat in Idul Fitri. It is a tradition. Ketupat filled with fruit slices, jam and honey could be a uniqe enrichment. From this enrichment orngutans can learn about problem solving, natural behavior, it can also stimulate their sense of smell and better their phisical creativity to enjoy various kind of foods inside the Ketupay and the fruit slices of Ketupat Ramadhan edition.

Intinya, Enrichment itu membuat mereka sibuk, berpikir, belajar dan mencari cara bagaimana menyantap hidangan, khususnya Orangutan yang berada dalam enclosure atau kandang. Cara-cara sederhana dengan sedikit kreativitas memperkaya variasi penyajian dan media yang dipakai untuk makanannya.
Tradisi Ramadhan pada saat Idul Fitri tak lepas dari ketupat lebaran. Enrichment berbentuk ketupat menjadi hal yang unik, tenta såja isinya potongan buah-buahan, selai dan madu. Selain bertujuan agar tidak jenuh, Enrichment ini juga memberikan problem solving, prilaku alamiah, merangsang indra penciuman dan melatih kerativitas fisik dalam menyantap berbagai jenis makanan yang ada dalam Enrichment ketupat dan menikmati potongan buah-buahan edisi ketupat Ramadhan.

PULSEOXIMETER FROM OVAID

PULSEOXIMETER is an equipment to monitor heartbeat and also oxygen level in the blood. It is a kind of portable Electro Cardio Graph (ECG). Thanks to OVAID for providing most of our medical equipments. Also thanks to Compassion and Soul for funding the development of our clinic. Your support through these two groups have saved many orangutans life.
PUlseoxymeter adalah alat untuk memantau detak jantung dan juga kadar oksigen dalam darah. Semacam EKG portabel. Terima kasih pada OVAID yang telah menyediakan hampir seluruh perlengkapan medis kami dan juga pada WC&S yang telah membangunkan klinik. Dukungan anda melalui kedua organisasi tersebut telah menyelamatkan banyak nyawa.

GET WELL SOON LECI

Orangutan Leci was evacuated by APE Defender (rapid response team of COP) from Kebon Agung Village, Sangatta, East Kutai, East Kalimantan on April 3, 2016. Leci was found by a farmer in a farm, separated from its mother. Orangutans get to the farms because the forest has been cleared for oil palm plantations.
Just like other ordinary kid, May 12, 2016 orangutan Leci also needs to be treated at the clinic of COP Borneo because of fever. Fortunately, Leci still has a will to eat so she does not need an IV. Get well soon, Leci.. hopefully the quarantine period will end very soon.

Orangutan Leci adalah orangutan yang dievakuasi APE Defender (tim gerak cepat COP) dari desa Kebon Agung, Sangatta, Kutai Timur, Kalimantan Timur pada 3 April 2016 yang lalu. Leci ditemukan seorang petani di kebunnya sendirian, terpisah dari induknya. Orangutan terpaksa mendatangi kebun masyarakat karena hutan sebagai habitatnya habis dibabat untuk perkebunan kelapa sawit. ‪#‎conflictpalmoil‬
Seperti anak kecil pada umumnya, saat ini 12 Mei 2016, orangutan Leci pun harus dirawat di klinik COP Borneo karena demam. Untungnya, Leci masih semangat untuk makan sehingga tidak perlu diinfus. Animal keeper dan paramedis menjadi ibu penggantinya. Cepat pulih ya Leci… semoga masa karantina cepat berakhir.

1st BIRTHDAY COP BORNEO

Time goes so quickly. Today COP Borneo celebrates its 1st birthday. A year ago, 13 ORANGUTANS of Temporary Shelter Samarinda. That day marked the birth of COP Borneo, the 5th orangutan rescue center in Borneo. For COP, this is the proof of our commitment. No matter how huge the obstacles, but we believe that our team can be mutually rely. COP Borneo is proof of the inevitability of a determination. A proof how powerful a dream is.
Thank you to every person who has helped us achieve this, if you have participated in any of our fundraising campaigns & orangutan adoptions thank you for helping us to build & run COP Borneo.
Waktu berlalu dengan cepat. Tak terasa, pada hari ini COP Borneo berulang tahun yang ke-1. Setahun yang lalu, 13 ORANGUTAN dari Temporary Shelter Samarinda. Hari itu menandai kelahiran COP Borneo, Pusat Penyelamatan ORANGUTAN ke 5 di Kalimantan. Bagi COP, ini adalah pembuktian komitmen kami. Tidak peduli betapa besarnya rintangan menghadang, namun kami percaya sebagai sesama anggota tim kami bisa saling mengandalkan. COP Borneo adalah bukti keniscayaan dari sebuah tekad. Sebuah bukti betapa kuatnya mimpi.

A BEAR CUB SAVED FROM ILLEGAL WILDLIFE TRADE

COP applaud Bali Wildlife Authority for rapidly response our report. A bear cub have saved from illegal wildlife trade. During 2015, COP saved 4 orangutan babies and another 78 wildlife, including bears and clouded leopard from black market. Wildlife trade is one of the main threat for Indonesian wildlife. According to Interpol, this illicit business is biggest one after drug trade and then weapons.
