WELCOME TO COP SCHOOL BATCH 9

Since Tuesday afternoon, one by one the Batch 9 COP School participants arrived. New faces, looked hesitant at first, reached out to get acquainted. They are agents of change for the next conservation world.

Of course their presence in the APE Warrior camp went through some struggle. They ventured to register, reached into their pockets to pay the registration fee, took the time to work on assignments at the selection stage and the costs to arrive in Yogyakarta was not small . Of the nearly 170 who were interested, it shrank to 49 people and ended up with 29 people who had the opportunity to take part in the COP School on 9-14 January 2019. “Actually there were 31 who passed the selection stage, but three of them had to resign due to urgent needs. If you want to join next year, you have to register and went through the selection process again”, Said Ramadhani, head of the COP School.

“This is not over, if you have participated in the Batch 9 COP School then what next? Please apply what you have learned in the next five days. At the end of 2019, at the Jambore Orangufriends, it’s graduation time with what you have applied after finishing Yogya sessions,” added Ramadhani again. SELAMAT DATANG DI COP SCHOOL BATCH 9
Sejak Selasa sore, satu persatu peserta COP School Batch 9 berdatangan. Wajah-wajah baru dengan tingkah yang ragu-ragu mengulurkan tangan untuk berkenalan. Mereka adalah agen perubahan untuk dunia konservasi selanjutnya.

Tentu saja kehadiran mereka di camp APE Warrior penuh perjuangan. Mereka memberanikan diri mendaftar, merogoh kantungnya untuk membayar biaya pendaftaran, meluangkan waktu mengerjakan tugas di tahap seleksi dan biaya yang tidak sedikit untuk sampai di Yogyakarta. Dari hampir 170 yang tertarik, menyusut menjadi 49 orang dan berakhir dengan 29 orang yang berkesempatan mengikuti COP School pada 9-14 Januari 2019. “Sebenernya ada 31 yang lulus seleksi, namun terpaksa mengundurkan diri karena ada keperluan mendesak. Jika mau ikut tahun depan, ya harus daftar dan seleksi lagi.”, ujar Ramadhani, kepala sekolah COP School tiga tahun terakhir ini.

“Ini belum berakhir, jika kamu sudah ikut COP School Batch 9 lalu bagaimana? Silahkan terapkan apa yang kamu peroleh selama lima hari kedepan. Akhir tahun 2019, di Jambore Orangufriends saatnya wisuda dengan apa yang telah kamu lakukan usai dari Yogya.”, tambah Ramadhani lagi. Kemudian… yuk jadi pendamping untuk peserta COP School Batch 10. WRITING COMPETITION ON ORANGUTAN HAS BEEN CLOSED

Two days before the closing of the Orangutan Short Story Writing Competition, Center for Orangutan Protection’s BNI account 1377888997 was flooded with donations of Rp. 25,003.00 as proof of participation in the competition. Ten best works are planned to be printed into books. This competition was an Indie Book Corner collaboration with the Center for Orangutan Protection.

Finally on the due date, Sunday, January 6, 2019 at 23:00 WIB the committee received 128 short stories. The committee were amazed by the ideas and storyline of each incoming short story with the theme of A Good Life for Orangutans. Starting from stories about orangutans who lost their habitat to orangutan stories in the decades ahead.

For one month, the committee will select the short stories. The initial stage 50 works are selected, then ten best works are determined. Of the ten works, three winners were chosen. “Thank you for participating. There are many ways to take part in protecting orangutans. This donation is for orangutans.”, Septian said. The winner’s announcement will be published at the opening of The 3rd Art For Orangutan on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at the Jogja National Museum, Yogyakarta. (EBO)

LOMBA MENULIS CERPEN ORANGUTAN DITUTUP
Dua hari menjelang penutupan Lomba Menulis Cerpen Orangutan, rekening BNI 1377888997 atas nama Centre for Orangutan Protection dibanjirin donasi Rp 25.003,00 sebagai bukti keikutsertaan peserta dalam lomba. Sepuluh karya terbaik rencananya akan dibukukan. Lomba ini merupakan kolaborasi Indie Book Corner dengan Centre for Orangutan Protection.

Hingga akhirnya pada hari Minggu, 6 Januari 2019 pukul 23.00 WIB panitia menerima 128 cerpen. Cerpen-cerpen yang masuk dengan tema A Good Life for Orangutan membuat panitia kagum dengan ide dan jalan cerita setiap cerpen. Mulai dari cerita mengenai orangutan yang kehilangan habitatnya sampai cerita orangutan di puluhan tahun ke depan.

Selama satu bulan, panitia akan menyeleksi cerpen-cerpen tersebut. Tahap awal ada 50 karya yang masuk yang selanjutnya akan ditentukan sepuluh karya terbaik. Dari sepuluh karya tersebut lah penentuan tiga pemenang. “Terimakasih atas keikutsertaannya. Banyak cara untuk ambil bagian dalam perlindungan orangutan. Donasi ini untuk orangutan.”, ujar Septian. Pengumuman pemenang akan dipublikasikan pada pembukaan Art For Orangutan 3 pada Kamis, 14 Pebruari 2019 di Jogja National Museum, Yogyakarta.

THE FIRST 6 MONTHS FOR ANNIE IN FOREST SCHOOL

This is Annie, an orangutan who has just been in the COP Borneo forest school for 6 months. Annie is a 5-year-old male orangutan. On the first day, he received bullying from the other orangutans. But that doesn’t make him go back to his cage. He chooses to go to his animal keeper, Jhonny, who can defend him if the bullying happens. Without the presence of Jhonny, Annie chose to not go out of the cage to undergo forest school.

What happened when Jhonny took him to forest school? Annie climbed the tree, away from the forest school location and played alone. According to Jhonny, Annie is often seen getting food in the trees.

Like other orangutan children in the forest school, at noon, Annie will go down to the ground and join other orangutans, playing on the forest ground. Based on the records of the animal keeper, Annie hasn’t seen making a nest yet.

2018 has just passed, the existing report is still too early. Annie’s spirit is the hope of COP Borneo. We are waiting for Annie’s development in the next semester. (IND)

ANNIE SELAMA 6 BULAN DI SEKOLAH HUTAN COP BORNEO
Ini dia Annie, orangutan yang baru masuk kelas sekolah hutan COP Borneo selama 6 bulan ini. Annie adalah orangutan jantan berusia 5 tahun. Hari pertama masuk kelas mendapat perundungan dari orangutan yang lebih dahulu masuk kelas ini. Tapi bukan berarti dia memilih untuk berada di dalam kandang saja, tapi dia memilih animal keepernya, yang tentu saja bisa membelanya jika perundungan itu terjadi. Pilihan itu pun jatuh pada Jhonny. Tanpa kehadiran Jhonny, Annie memilih untuk tidak keluar kandang untuk menjalani kelas sekolah hutan.

Tapi apa yang terjadi sesaat Jhonny membawanya ke sekolah hutan? Annie memanjat pohonnya, menjauh dari lokasi sekolah hutan dan bermain sendiri. Menurut Jhonny, Annie sering terlihat mendapatkan makanan di atas pohon.

Seperti anak orangutan lain yang berada di kelas sekolah hutan, saat siang hari, Annie akan turun ke tanah dan bergabung dengan orangutan lainnya, bermain di lantai hutan. Berdasarkan catatan animal keeper, Annie belum terlihat membuat sarang.

Tahun 2018 baru saja berlalu, rapot yang ada itu masih awal. Semangat Annie adalah harapan COP Borneo. Kita tunggu perkembangan Annie semester depan yuk.

LET’S ENJOY COFFEE IN THE MIDDLE OF FORESTS

Who said “coffee break” only applies at a formal meeting? It also happens in the forest. We pause our activity after monitoring orangutans, or after hours of walking to track orangutans. Then we take “coffee break”. We stop for a moment, relieving fatigue and thirst. Even without sweet cakes to balance the bitter of the coffee, “coffee break” remains the sweetest activity for all rangers.

“Break!” Don’t be surprised you heard this sound in the forest. On the riverside, one thermos of black coffee is shared with separate sugars. Each ranger has a different taste of sweetness. After the coffee and sugar entering the glass, just remember that the spoon is left in the camp. So, how could we stir the coffee without a spoon? The rangers use wood branches to stir and add flavor.

Spending time with small talk and jokes, the “coffee break” was always followed by laughter. In fact, with a glass of black coffee and a little chat, the fatigue we felt was gone. Being a ranger takes a lot of physical energy because you have to walk in the forest with difficult terrain. “Let’s go”, said one of the ranger to end the “coffee break”. We continue to patrol with a new passion. (IND)

NIKMATNYA NGOPI DI TENGAH HUTAN
Siapa bilang istilah “coffee break” hanya berlaku di sebuah acara pertemuan formal. Istilah tersebut juga berlaku di hutan. Benar-benar di tengah hutan. Sesaat saja, berhenti sejenak dari monitoring orangutan, atau setelah berjam-jam berjalan menelusuri jejak orangutan. Maka “coffee break” pun berlaku. Sambil melepas penat dan dahaga walau tanpa kue manis lawan pahitnya kopi, tapi “coffee break” tetap menjadi bagian termanis bagi para ranger.

“Break”! Jangan sampai kaget jika di sunyinya hutan terdengar kata ini. Seperti biasa, di pinggiran anak sungai, satu termos kopi hitam dibagi rata, dengan gula yang terpisah. Tiap ranger punya rasa yang berbeda. Setelah gula masuk ke dalam segelas kopi, baru ingat kalau sendok tidak terbawa. Karena sendok tak jadi ngopi? Masih ada ranting kayu untuk mengaduk, ini akan menambah citarasa.

Diselipi dengan obrolan ringan dan candaan, “coffee break” pun selalu diikuti gelak tawa para ranger. Nyatanya, dengan segelas kopi hitam dan sedikit obrolan, penat yang dirasakan ranger pun menyusut. Wajar saja, menjadi ranger banyak menguras tenaga fisik karena harus berjalan di hutan dengan medan yang tidak mudah. “Lanjut”, sahut salah seorang ranger untuk mengakhiri “coffee break”. HOPE FOR OWI IN 2019

The end of 2018 is so thrilling. Reports had been submitted one by one and the evaluation began. Forest schools are the orangutan hope to sharpen their instincts as wild orangutans. In the previous quarter year, Owi was no longer always seen with Bonti. This forced him to play more in the trees on his own. Owi actively plays in the liana roots, swings from one tree to another and explores the forest.

Unfortunately, Owi hasn’t shown the ability to make nests yet. Maybe he still doesn’t need a nest because when he was tired of playing in the trees, he preferred to go down and invite other orangutans to play on the ground.

Owi is an orangutan found by a worker in the palm oil plantation area in East Kalimantan. At that time he was only 2 years old. The worker took him and then gave him to a soldier in Tenggarong.

This is Owi’s second year at the COP Borneo orangutan rehabilitation center. Climbing, a crucial skill for arboreal animals, is no longer a problem for him. “Entering his third year, we hope he can make a nest,” said Wety Rupiana excitedly. “Owi is already good at looking for food in the trees,” added Wety again. HARAPAN UNTUK OWI DI TAHUN 2019
Akhir tahun menjadi begitu mendebarkan. Laporan demi laporan masuk dan evaluasi pun dimulai. Sekolah hutan adalah harapan orangutan untuk mengasah instingnya sebagai orangutan liar. Owi pada kuartal sebelumnya tak lagi selalu terlihat dengan orangutan Bonti. Hal ini memaksanya untuk lebih banyak bermain di atas pohon. Owi menjadi aktif bermain di akar-akar liana, berayun-ayun dari satu pohon ke pohon yang lain dan melakukan penjelajahan tanpa menyentuh tanah.

Sayang, Owi belum menunjukkan kemampuannya membuat sarang. Mungkin Owi masih belum memerlukan sarang karena ketika Owi terlihat sudah cukup lama bermain di atas pohon, Owi lebih suka turun ke tanah dan mengajak orangutan lain bermain.

Owi adalah orangutan yang ditemukan pekerja di area perkebunan kelapa sawit di Kalimantan Timur. Saat itu usianya baru 2 tahun, karena kasihan, pekerja tersebut membawanya dan akhirnya berpindah tangan pada seorang tentara di daerah Tenggarong.

Ini adalah tahun keduanya di pusat rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo. Memanjat yang merupakan modal dasar satwa aboreal sudah bukan masalah lagi untuk Owi. “Memasuki tahun ketiganya, tentu saja kami berharap dia bisa membuat sarang.”, ujar Wety Rupiana bersemangat. “O… iya… Owi sudah pandai mencari makan di atas pohon.”, tambah Wety lagi.

RESCUING BANTEN TSUNAMI ANIMALS

The tsunami disaster hit the coasts in the Sunda Strait on the night of December 22, 2018. Temporary data (26/12) recorded 430 people died, 1,495 people injured, 159 people missing and 21,991 people displaced. Among humanitarian assistance, the rescue team found several turtles trapped and took the time to help these animals. The Animals Warrior team is currently sweeping beaches and ruins to help victims of animals.

The Animals Warrior Team is a joint team of Animals Indonesia and the Center for Orangutan Protection that always involved in areas affected by disasters such as the Palu earthquake-tsunami, mount Agung Bali, mount Sinabung North Sumatra, mount Kelud Malang-Kediri, mount Merapi Yogya, Aceh earthquake, and others. This team saved, evacuated, cared for and even brought animals back to their owners. The team also takes care of dead animals.

Thursday, December 27, 2018, PVMBG raised the status of Anak Krakatau mountain from Alert level II to Alert level III. TOLONG SATWA TSUNAMI BANTEN
Bencana tsunami menerjang pantai di Selat Sunda pada 22 Desember 2018 malam. Data sementara (26/12) tercatat 430 orang meninggal dunia, 1.495 orang luka-luka, 159 orang hilang dan 21.991 orang mengungsi. Diantara bantuan kemanusian, tim rescue menemukan beberapa penyu yang terjebak dan menyempatkan untuk menolong satwa-satwa ini. Tim Animals Warrior saat ini menyisir pantai dan reruntuhan untuk membantu korban satwa.

Tim Animals Warrior adalah tim gabungan dari Animals Indonesia dan Centre for Orangutan Protection yang selalu turun di kawasan terdampak bencana seperti gempa-tsunami Palu, gunung Agung Bali, g. Sinabung Sumatera Utara, g. Kelud Malang-Kediri, g. Merapi Yogya, gempa Aceh, dan lain-lain. Tim ini menyelamatkan, mengevakuasi, merawat bahkan mempertemukan kembali satwa ke pemiliknya. Kamis, 27 Desember 2018, PVMBG menaikkan status gunung Anak Krakatau dari Waspada (level II) menjadi Siaga (level III). Tim bekerja cepat untuk bisa mencapai jangkauan yang lebih luas sambil meningkatkan kewaspadaan dengan bencana yang mungkin saja terjadi. APE GUARDIAN FELL ASLEEP DURING PATROL

Patrolling on foot by combing the Lesan River Protected Forest (HLSL) track armed with enthusiasm and togetherness to protect the forest. At 4 am local time, the APE Guardian team, the rangers were up and ready. Relying on both feet, walking in the forest by making a GPS sign when seeing an orangutan nest, orangutan and other wildlife feed or their remains. Those findings are never been missed recorded in the team’s small notes during the patrol.

Each ranger travels 10 kilometers, even more with lane conditions that are not all flat. Rangers have to climb two or three hills and occasionally bonus flat track, then rocks and creeks are waiting ahead. Trees that are dense with hanging thorns and even itchy leaves that if touched by the skin will cause extraordinary itching makes the rangers to be extra cautious. Plus the cute and wet leeches that are ready to go along while sucking blood between the toes. If you like challenges … of course the journey to become a ranger will be your unforgettable experience!

Fatigue, combined with the peace of the forest after having lunch is very difficult to avoid for someone to nap. Take a little time to close your eyes for a moment even only lying down on dry leaves and river rocks. APE GUARDIAN TERLEPAP SAAT PATROLI
Patroli dengan berjalan menyisir jalur Hutan Lindung Sungai Lesan (HLSL) berbekal semangat dan kebersamaan untuk menjaga hutan. Tim APE Guardian pukul 04.00 WITA, para ranger sudah bangun dan bersiap. Mengandalkan kedua kaki, berjalan di hutan dengan membuat tanda di GPS ketika bertemu sarang orangutan, pakan atau bekas pakan orangutan maupun satwa liar lainnya dengan sedikit catatan kecil tak luput dari perhatian ranger selama patroli.

Setiap ranger menempuh perjalanan 10 kilometer, bahkan lebih dengan keadaan jalur yang tak semuanya mendatar. Ranger harus mendaki dua atau tiga bukit dan sesekali bonus jalan mendatar setelah itu jalur batu-batuan dan anak sungai sudah menanti. Pohon-pohon yang rapat dengan duri-duri yang menggelantung bahkan daun yang jika tersentuh kulit menyebabkan gatal yang luar biasa harus menjadi kewaspadaan tersendiri bagi para ranger yang ikut patroli. Ditambah si imut nan basah yang siap ikut berjalan bersama sembari menghisap darah di sela-sela jari kaki. Jika kamu suka tantangan… tentu perjalanan menjadi ranger akan menjadi pengalamanmu yang tak terlupakan!

Kelelahan didukung damainya hutan sulit sekali untuk menghindari tidur siang usai makan siang. Mencuri sedikit waktu untuk memejamkan mata sejenak walau hanya beralaskan daun kering dan batu-batuan sungai. Tentu saja, tetap ada yang terjaga dengan kamera siap mengabadikan momen yang ada, tak terkecuali saat ranger terlelap. (Ipeh_Orangufriends)

HOW IS YOUR DAY, MEMO?

This is Memo, an orangutan who can peels coconuts cleanly at COP Borneo orangutan rehabilitation center, East Kalimantan. After peeling it off, she broke the shell to drink the coconut water. She uses a unique technique to break the coconut, very unusual compared to other orangutans. Memo breaks the coconut by banging it on the cage wall. Then, she eats her coconut meat, slowly until it runs out.

Memo is an adult female orangutan. Her movements are limited because she spent most of her life inside a cage. She only has few activities besides looking out through the cold iron bars. We don’t know how many hammocks have been damaged, repaired or even replaced with new ones, but Memo will continue her life inside the cage.

She is Memo, an orangutan who dares to dream of living without iron bars. She cannot join with other orangutans and cannot be released into her habitat because she has hepatitis B. This disease is contagious and cannot be cured. Memo, an orangutan who was kept for years by a villager in Muara Wahau, East Kalimantan and got hepatitis from humans. “Don’t pet orangutans, we share 97% of the same DNA. Our diseases are same and can infect each other. Now you understand, don’t you?”, said Daniek Hendarto, manager of the COP Ex-Situ program. (IND)

BAGAIMANA HARI-HARIMU, MEMO?
Ini dia orangutan yang mengupas buah kelapa hingga bersih di pusat rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo, Kalimantan Timur. Selesai mengupasnya, dia pun memecahkan tempurungnya untuk meminum airnya yang segar. Cara memecahkan tempurung kelapa ini pun berbeda dengan orangutan yang lainnya. Hanya Memo yang memecahkan kelapa dengan membenturkan kelapanya ke dinding kandang. Kemudian, dia akan memakan daging kelapanya, perlahan-lahan sampai habis.

Memo orangutan betina yang sudah bukan anak-anak lagi. Usianya sudah memasuki usia dewasa. Gerakannya terbatas pada kandang. Melihat keluar dari balik jeruji besi yang dingin. Entah sudah berapa belas hammock yang rusak, diperbaiki bahkan diganti dengan yang baru. Dan Memo akan terus di dalam kandang.

Dia adalah Memo, orangutan yang berani bermimpi untuk hidup tanpa jeruji besi lagi walau bukan di habitat aslinya karena penyakit yang dideritanya yaitu hepatitis B. Itulah sebabnya, Memo tidak bisa bergabung dengan yang lainnya dan tidak mungkin dilepasliarkan ke habitatnya. Penyakit menularnya akan mewabah jika dia bergabung dengan yang lainnya. Memo, orangutan yang bertahun-tahun dipelihara seorang warga Muara Wahau, Kalimantan Timur dan tertular hepatitis dari manusia. “Jangan pelihara orangutan, kita berbagi 97% DNA yang sama. Penyakit yang diderita pun sama dan bisa saling menularkan. Sekarang kamu mengertikan.”, ujar Daniek Hendarto, manajer program Eks-Situ COP.

CARE FOR ‘FEET’ WHEN IN THE RIVER

Today Bit and two other rangers are on holidays. Holiday does not mean doing nothing, “I’ll get sick if I do nothing”, Said Bit. Bit then invited Steven and Bayu to clean the boat engine and generator engine. “inventory maintenance is mandatory.”, The Bit said again. Understandably, the boat is their main and only transportation. Going to the village, transporting logistics and fishing for side dishes also cannot be done without a boat, while the generator engine is the only source of electricity in Lejak’s camp.

Steven pulled out the boat machine with Bayu’s help. Then the Bit cleaned every part of the machine, tapped out the used oil and replaced it with new one. After that, Bit rechecked to ensure that there was no problem with the engine. The saggy bolts are quickly refastened. Not forget to check the fan function also.

Then, Steven and Bayu put the boat machine back on and tried it. The engine was turned on and the boat ran upstream. “Safe!”, Steven shouted from a distance signaling Bit that the boat machine was in good condition. The engine was done. Now it was turn for the boat ‘Way Back Home’ that needed maintenance. Steven also invited others to wash the boat. “Exciting!!!”. (EBO)

MERAWAT KAKI SAAT DI SUNGAI
Kebetulan sekali, hari ini, Bit dan dua ranger lainnya sedang mendapat jatah libur monitoring. Libur bukan berarti berdiam diri, “Malah sakit semua badanku nanti.”, ujar Bit. Bit pun mengajak Steven dan Bayu untuk membersihkan mesin ketinting dan mesin generator. “Merawat inventaris itu wajib.”, kata Bit lagi. Maklum saja, perahu menjadi transportasi utama dan satu-satunya. Pergi ke kampung, mengangkut logistik dan memancing ikan untuk lauk pun juga tak bisa dilakukan tanpa ketinting dan mesin generator adalah sumber listrik satu-satunya di camp Lejak.

Steven mengeluarkan mesin ketinting dengan bantuan Bayu. Lalu Bit membersihkan setiap bagian mesin, mengeluarkan oli lama dan menggantinya dengan oli baru. Selepas itu, Bit kembali memastikan tidak ada yang bermasalah dengan mesin ketinting. Baut-baut yang kendor dengan cepat dirapatkan kembali. Tak ketinggalan, mengecek fungsi kipas.

Lalu, Steven dan Bayu memasang kembali mesin ketinting dan mencobanya. Mesin dihidupkan dan perahu dijalankan hingga ke hulu sungai. “Aman!”, teriak Steven dari kejauhan sambal memberi isyarat kepada Bit bahwa mesin ketinting dalam kondisi bagus. Mesin sudah oke, giliran perahu ‘Way Back Home’ yang mendapat perawatan. Steven pun mengajak yang lainnya untuk memandikan perahu. “Seru!!!”. (REZ)

HELP ORANGUTANS THROUGH ART FOR ORANGUTAN

Art is an universal languages that can be accepted by many. it will become a medium to deliver current issues on what happened to orangutans. The artists, with their creativities, will show the themes of orangutan thru their arts. All the spirit is summarized by Art for Orangutan (AFO) in the form of an art exhibition that has been visited by many people.

There were 122 art works with around 1500 visitors when the 2nd AFO was held in 2016. The exhibition that was held for 4 days had it own attraction for people to visit, see, respond, and understand the condition of our current orangutans. The support for orangutans was flowing in every way.

Another energy from AFO is the collective works of Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) supporters who are members of Orangufriends with several art communities such as Gigi Nyala, IAM Project, etc. All agreed that AFO is an art activity that is not to be affiliated with the interested parties of orangutans, especially for event supporters or sponsorship.

The fundraising is expected to cover the cost of gallery and musical instruments rental, catalogue printing and transportation for performers/panelists. BANTU ORANGUTAN LEWAT ART FOR ORANGUTAN
Seni adalah bahasa universal yang bisa diterima oleh orang banyak, akan menjadi jembatan untuk menyampaikan isu terkini pada apa yang terjadi dengan orangutan. Para seniman dengan kreatifitas tersendiri akan menyampaikan tema-tema orangutan melalui karyanya. Semangat itu yang dirangkum oleh Art for Orangutan (AFO) menjadi sebuah pameran seni yang banyak dikunjungi oleh orang.

Ada 122 karya seni dengan jumlah pengunjung sekitar 1500 orang saat AFO kedua di tahun 2016 yang lalu. Pameran yang berlangsung selama 4 hari ini menjadi magnet tersendiri untuk orang-orang datang, melihat, merespon dan mengerti hingga memahami kondisi orangutan terkini. Dukungan untuk orangutan pun mengalir dengan deras dengan caranya masing-masing.

Semangat lain dari AFO adalah kerja kolektif anggota pendukung Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) yang tergabung dalam Orangufriends dengan beberapa komunitas seni seperti Gigi Nyala, IAM Project dll. Semua sepakat bahwa AFO adalah kegiatan seni yang mencoba untuk tidak berkonflik kepentingan bagi orangutan, terutama dengan para pendukung acara atau sponsorship.

Penggalangan dana ini diharapkan bisa menutupi pengeluaran biaya seperti sewa galeri, alat musik, cetak katalog dan transportasi pengisi acara.
