On February 19, 2019, the medical team conducted a health check on newly rescued orangutans from Longgie, Berau, East Kalimantan. This small orangutan only weighs 6 kg. She is only 1-2 years old, seen from the number of her teeth which is 20.

Mary, is a wild orangutan. Her movement, which always wanted to climb the clinic enclosure and how she treated leaves and twigs given by the caregiver, made the medical team more alert. In fact, Mary immediately piled leaves and twigs like making nests.

The rescue process for Mary was not easy. The team approached the caretaker several times to avoid unwanted rejection. “Thank God, after being given an explanation, the keeper was willing to give Mary. According to the keeper Mary had been kept since last November 2018. It’s still quite new.”, said vet Flora optimistically.

MARY MENJALANI PEMERIKSAAN KESEHATAN
19 Pebruari 2019, tim medis melakukan pemeriksaan kesehatan pada orangutan yang baru diselamatkan dari Longgie, Berau, Kalimantan Timur. Orangutan kecil ini hanya memiliki berat badan 6 kg. Usianya pun baru 1-2 tahun yang diperlihatkan dari jumlah giginya yaitu 20 gigi.

Mary, adalah orangutan yang cukup liar. Gerakannya yang selalu ingin memanjat kandang klinik dan perlakuannya pada daun dan ranting yang diberikan pengasuhnya membuat tim medis lebih waspada. Bahkan, Mary langsung menumpuk daun dan ranting seperti membuat sarang.

Penyelamatan Mary sendiri bukanlah hal yang mudah. Tim beberapa kali mendekati pemelihara agar tidak terjadi penolakan yang tidak diinginkan. “Syukurlah, setelah diberi penjelasan akhirnya pemelihara bersedia menyerahkan Mary. Mary sendiri dipelihara sejak November 2018 yang lalu menurut pengakuannya. Masih cukup baru.”, ujar drh. Flora dengan optimis.

While waiting for a call, Mary was invited to the enclosure created by Angel’s orangutan volunteer team from Australia in 2016. Mary used this opportunity to run away and climb trees. The caregivers were made panic, running here and there. Milk and fruit to persuade her to come down were not heeded. Mary didn’t want to come down. Finally … Mary was picked up by force. MARY KABUR
Orangutan Mary adalah orangutan yang baru masuk ke pusat rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo pada 12 Pebruari 2019 yang lalu. Tubuhnya yang kecil bukan berarti dia tidak bisa apa-apa loh. Dengan tubuhnya yang kecil, Mary menjadi begitu lincah.

Kelincahannya juga disertai dengan nyalinya yang cukup besar. Dimana ada kesempatan untuk bebas, dia pasti memanfaatkannya. Keluar dari kandang dan berada di tempat yang luas untuk meraih pohon dan bergelantungan sepertinya mimpinya. Mungkin itu yang selalu direncanakannya jika pintu kandang dibuka.

Tak terkecuali pagi ini. Tim kesehatan bersiap untuk program Posyandu Orangutan, dimana orangutan-orangutan kecil diukur dan ditimbang lalu dievaluasi kesehatannya. Tentu saja Mary belum bisa digabungkan dengan yang lainnya. Dia masih menunggu hasil dari laboratorium tentang kesehatannya. Mary berada pada antrian terakhir.

Sambil menunggu panggilan, Mary diajak ke enclosure yang dibuat tim relawan orangutan Angel dari Australia tahun 2016 yang lalu. Kesempatan ini pun dimanfaatkan Mary untuk kabur dan memanjat pohon. Para pengasuh dibuat heboh, berlari kesana kemari. Susu dan buah untuk membujuknya turun pun tak diindahkannya. Mary tidak mau turun. Akhirnya… Mary dijemput paksa, salah satu animal keeper pun terpaksa manjat pohon dan menggendongnya turun.

Here he is, the noisy Jojo. Jojo always cried hysterically when he could not attend the forest school class. Last Saturday morning when the cage door opened, Jojo wanted to get out and go to the forest school. Pity, that day was not Jojo’s turn to join forest school.

YUK, BANTU JOJO TIDAK MENANGIS LAGI
Ini dia, si berisik Jojo. Jojo selalu menangis histeris ketika tidak bisa ikut kelas sekolah hutan. Sabtu pagi kemarin ketika pintu kandang terbuka, Jojo ingin langsung keluar dan berangkat ke sekolah hutan. Kasian, hari itu bukan giliran Jojo masuk sekolah hutan.

Jojo menangis sejadi-jadinya, guling-guling di kandang. Dia marah karena tidak diajak ke sekolah hutan. Karena tangisnya tidak berhenti, Wety mengajak Jojo untuk diam. Dan ketika animal keeper membuka kembali kandang, Jojo langsung menghentikan tangisannya. Segera dia keluar dan meraih badan keeper. Akhirnya Jojo pun kami bawa ke sekolah hutan.

Sesampai di lokasi sekolah hutan, Jojo langsung naik melalui akar pohon. Sesekali melihat keeper dari atas. Dia terlihat sangat bahagia bisa bermain di lokasi sekolah hutan. “Sayang, jadwal sekolah hutan tetap harus diberlakukan karena terbatasan jumlah animal keeper di COP Borneo.”, ujar Wety Rupiana, kordinator satu-satunya pusat rehabilitasi orangutan yang didirikan putra-putri Indonesia.

Are you missing Popi? Popi is an orangutan who joined the COP Borneo orangutan rehabilitation center since she was born. Can you imagine how small and weak she was at that time? Rindu dengan Popi? Popi adalah orangutan yang masuk pusat rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo saat tali pusarnya baru saja lepas. Bisa kamu bayangkan, betapa kecil dan lemahnya dia saat itu? Si kecil Popi semakin aktif di kelas sekolah hutan. Popi terlihat sering bermain sendiri di akar pohon. Tapi saat Bonti dan Happi sibuk membuat sarang, Popi pun perlahan mendekati mereka. Jika Popi terpaku memperhatikan Bonti dan Happi yang sibuk membuat sarang, maka Wety pun sibuk mencatat apa yang dilakukan Popi. Wety, baby sitter yang kini menjadi kordinator pusat rehabilitasi COP Borneo seperti ibu Popi yang masih kawatir saat anak asuhnya di luar jangkauan, di atas pohon. Takut apa ya? “Takut Popi jatuh karena salah memilih akar ataupun dahan untuk berpindah.”, ujar Wety Rupiana.

Nah, usai sarang yang dibuat Bonti dan Happi jadi. Popi pun semakin mendekati mereka. Popi ikut istirahat di sarang buatan mereka. “Numpang tidur siang.” (WET)

Ambon is an adult orangutan who spends his life behind bars. Being born and raised at the zoo makes him difficult to live independently in the forest. Last year, Ambon was released on the orangutan island. In less than a day, Ambon could climb his first tree. “This had made the team happy, and dreamed that Ambon would be released back into its habitat. But a month after that, Ambon looked depressed. Finally Ambon returned to the quarantine cage”, explained Reza Kurniawan, COP APE Guardian coordinator.

AMBON MENIKMATI DURIAN PEMBERIANMU
Musim durian sudah tiba. Buah durian adalah salah satu pohon yang tumbuh di hutan hujan Kalimantan. Kali ini, tim berhasil mendokumentasikan Ambon makan durian.

Dengan giginya, Ambon menggigit buah durian, lalu membuka ruang durian dan langsung melahap durian yang tersembunyi di dalamnya. Kali ini, satu ruang ada tiga butir, perlahan dia mengulumnya hingga benar-benar bersih. “Ambon benar-benar menikmati makan durian.”, ujar Wety Rupiana, kordinator COP Borneo.

Ambon adalah orangutan dewasa yang menghabiskan hidupnya di balik jeruji besi. Lahir dan besar di kebun binatang membuatnya kesulitan untuk hidup secara mandiri di hutan. Tahun lalu, Ambon sempat dilepaskan di pulau orangutan. Tak sampai menunggu hitungan hari, Ambon bisa memanjat pohon pertamanya. “Ini sempat membuat tim bahagia, dan bermimpi, Ambon akan dilepasliarkan kembali ke habitatnya. Namun sebulan setelah itu, Ambon terlihat depresi. Akhirnya Ambon kembali lagi ke kandang karantina.”, jelas Reza Kurniawan, kordinator APE Guardian COP.

Tahun ini, COP Borneo berencana melepaskan Ambon di pulau orangutan lagi. Tim akan kembali mengevaluasi hasilnya. Semoga Ambon tahun ini lebih baik lagi dan lebih menikmati hidupnya di pulau orangutan.

UNTUNG MENGHILANG DI DALAM PULAU PRA RILIS ORANGUTAN
“Sekali lagi, Untung berhasil membuat kami kesal!”, teriak Daniel yang bertugas mengawasi pulau pra rilis orangutan di Kalimantan Timur ini. Setelah empat hari tidak muncul di tempat pemberian makan, Untung membuat ulah lagi. Dari pagi hingga siang hari, Untung tak terlihat sama sekali dari pantauan tim pos monitoring pulau. Bahkan tim patroli mengelilingi pulau berulang kali, untuk mencari keberadaan Untung.

Sebelum berada di pusat rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo, Untung adalah orangutan yang berada di Kebun Raya Universitas Mulawarman, Samarinda. Kandang kecil kosong seperti kandang burung menjadi tempat tinggalnya. Saat itu Untung kecil selalu memeluk dirinya sendiri. Jari tak sempurnanya selalu disembunyikannya. “Tahun 2011 adalah tahun pertama kali kami memperkenalkan Untung untuk memanjat sebuah pohon. Kini, Untung menantikan hari kembalinya ke rumah sesungguhnya.”, ujar Daniek Hendarto, manajer Aksi Centre for Orangutan Protection.

Waktu sudah menunjukkan pukul 16.30 WITA dan kami belum menemukan Untung, padahal sudah waktunya untuk makan sore. Rasa kesal dan takut bercampur. Akhirnya tim memutuskan masuk ke dalam pulau untuk mencari Untung. Ternyata, ketika kami melakukan pencarian, Untung terlihat sedang asik bermain sendiri di dalam pulau. Ketakutan kami langsung hilang berubah menjadi kekesalan seketika saat melihat wajah dan badan Untung yang sangat kotor. Rupanya, Untung bermain tanah yang berlumpur di dalam pulau dan dia terlihat sangat senang sekali bisa mengguling-gulingkan badannya di tanah berlumpur tersebut.
