THE ‘WAY BACK HOME’ BOAT IS BADLY BROKEN

The APE Defender Team has tried to survive with a leaky boat for the past 4 months. Various efforts have been made. We were patching it with adhesive glue and cloth, but the leakage appears again at the other parts.

The boat is almost two years old now.  With high usage around the orangutan island, we strongly need a new boat soon. “At midnight, we also have to check the island. It is exhausting to frequently check the water that enters the boat. If we did not remove the water from the boat, the boat will sink with the engine” said Daniel, who is in charge of all vehicles at the COP Borneo orangutan rehabilitation center.

The ‘Way Back Home’ boat is the operational vehicle for the COP Borneo orangutan island. The boat is purchased from the benefits of Sound For Orangutan music charity or often called SFO. It is the greatest gift from the hard work of Orangufriends, COP support group. This music charity will also be held on Monday, October 29, 2018 in Yogyakarta. (IND)

PERAHU ‘WAY BACK HOME’ RUSAK PARAH

Perahu ‘Way Back Home’ adalah kendaraan operasional pulau orangutan COP Borneo.

MOTHER IN BALAROA WITH HER ELEVEN CATS

Maybe this is the most touching disaster mission for our animal warrior team. The people in Palu are very welcome for the presence of volunteers who are the members of our Animals Warrior team. We saw huge efforts from the pet owner to rescue their pets, like this couple from Balaroa.

Earthquakes are a common thing, but that day it was getting more and more powerful. Finally, an earthquake with 7.4 magnitudes struck all of this regions. This mother called her cats. Lifted it up and took it outside the house. Then she and her husband left the house. This couple is living together with eleven cats. Their efforts to save their cats make the animal volunteers touched. Suwarno, a volunteer who has repeatedly been in various disasters such as Mount Kelud and Mount Agung, also promised to return to feed their cats.

The mother was the first person that return home after one day in the evacuation camp. She did that to feed her cats. “It was amazing. The mom still had time to think about feeding these cats”, said vet Siti Aminah while checking the health of those cats. 4 small cats were given wet food while the big ones were fed with wet and dry food.

Until this day, it is still very difficult to find cat food in Palu. For this reason, cat aid is needed. The handling post for animals affected by the earthquake and tsunami in Palu was at the Central Sulawesi BKSDA office, Jl. Prof. M. Yamin No. 19 Palu or contact the Animals Warrior team at 081328837434. (IND)

Usaha menyelamatkan kucing-kucingnya membuat haru para relawan satwa.

SCHOOL VISIT AT VIDATRA JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

About 110 students from 7th and 8th grader at YPVDP Bontang Junior High School (Vidya Dahana Patra Education Foundation or better known as Vidatra Junior High) on Jalan Raya Badak PT. Badak LNG, gathered when our Trans Borneo Trail team visited their school on October 11, 2018.

It seems like the additional point promised by the school to their students makes the school visit very excited. Orangutans that are endemic to Borneo Island make students more focused and curious about why they are endangered. The Eyes of Earth team, who has been exploring East Kalimantan, describes the condition of the habitat of orangutans that are increasingly diminishing.

“Raising awareness at an early age is very important to understand various species of animals protected by the state. The problem faced by these animals must also be known so that the next generation can play an active role in maintaining its sustainability,” said Mr. Agung, The School Principal.

The Environmental Education Program, which is run at every school starting from elementary school, junior high school, and high school through the Adiwiyata Program, is expected to encourage students’ awareness about environment and conservation. (IND)

(PETz)
