APE CRUSADER GOES TO CENTRAL KALIMANTAN TO SAVE BABY ORANGUTAN

From east to West Kalimantan, APE Crusader finally arrived in East Kotawaringin regency, Central Kalimantan. With KSDA Region II Post Sampit section, the baby orangutan finally handed over to the country after 2 months of being cared illegally.

This female baby orangutan didn’t look healthy. There was groans several times, as if she was dealing with pain. The team saw a wound on her head that had just dry out. According to Pak Ali who found the orangutan, he found her on his farm when he was about to fishing, then he took her to be kept as pet.

How the baby orangutan was found always when the baby was alone in a farm of the locals. The local who found the baby felt pity and took it home to be cared. In fact, they didn’t even know how to take care of baby orangutan. Just like this baby orangutan called Sutan. He was put in a wooden box of 50 cm x 30 cm x 30 cm. The box condition was dirty like it had never been cleaned, there was also rotten banana leftover inside the box. The box was located behind the hut not far from the bathroom on the riverside.

APE CRUSADER MENUJU KALTENG UNTUK SELAMATKAN BAYI ORANGUTAN
Dari timur Kalimantan menuju barat, APE Crusader akhirnya tiba di kabupaten Kotawaringin Timur, Kalimantan Tengah. Bersama KSDA seksi wilayah II Pos Sampit, bayi orangutan akhirnya diserahkan kembali ke negara setelah dua bulan dipelihara secara ilegal.

Bayi orangutan berjenis kelamin betina ini terlihat tidak sehat. Beberapa kali terdengar rintihannya, seperti menahan sakit. Tim melihat ada luka di kepalanya dan sudah mulai mengering. Menurut pak Ali yang menemukan bayi orangutan tersebut, dia menemukannya di kebun sewaktu memancing, lalu membawanya untuk dipelihara.

Bagaimana bayi orangutan ditemukan selalu saja saat bayi sendiri di kebun atau ladang warga. Warga yang menemukan merasa kasihan dan membawanya untuk dipelihara. Pada kenyataannya, bagaimana cara merawat bayi orangutan pun tidak tahu. Seperti bayi orangutan bernama Sutan ini. Dia dimasukkan ke dalam kotak kayu berukuran 50cm x 30 cm x 30 cm. Kondisi kandang kotor karena tidak pernah dibersihkan, terdapat sisa pisang mentah bahkan busuk di dalamnya. Kandang pun terletak di belakang pondok tak jauh dari kamar mandi di sisi sungai.

THE MASSIVE AREA OF PALM OIL PLANTATION IN EAST KALIMANTAN

Trans Borneo Challenge #1 trip on October 13 was accompanied by an endless rain. Throughout their long trip, the team realized how huge the palm oil plantations in East Kalimantan is. The switch of team members cannot be avoided. Septian, who is a COP School Batch 6 alumni, must be replaced by Reza Kurniawan from COP School Batch 5.

An illegal orangutan ownership case is still found. Unyil, a baby orangutan from Meratak Village, East Kalimantan, looked thin. Unyil was sitting in an empty cage. “This is a dilemma. A local person, Mr. Jating, cannot let Unyil starving and fright alone in the middle of his field. When he found Unyil, he brought Unyil to have cared at his house” said Ibnu Anshari, an alumnus of COP School Batch 1 who was the Team Leader of the Trans Borneo Challenge #1 trail.

Finally, after 9 days of traveling from East Java, the team arrived at the COP Borneo orangutan rehabilitation center, Berau, East Kalimantan. What a challenging and interesting journey. The team witnessed the condition of our mother earth. They listen and see the loss of orangutan habitat in East Kalimantan, that are destroyed by the enormous palm oil business. (IND)

LUASNYA PERKEBUNAN KELAPA SAWIT KALIMANTAN TIMUR

Perjalanan Trans Borneo Challenge #1 pada 13 Oktober ditemani hujan tanpa henti. Sepanjang perjalanan tanpa putus perkebunan kelapa sawit membawa kami pada luasnya perkebunan kelapa sawit di Kalimantan Timur ini. Pergantian personal pun tak bisa dihindari. Septian yang merupakan alumni COP School Batch 6 harus digantikan Reza Kurniawan dari COP School Batch 5.

Kepemilikan ilegal orangutan pun masih dijumpai. Orangutan Unyil dari kampung Meratak, Kalimantan Timur terlihat kurus. Unyil pun masih terduduk di kandang kosong. “Ini adalah dilema, masyarakat tak tega membiarkan Unyil sendirian di tengah ladangnya saat ditemukan pertama kali. Unyil pun dibawa untuk dipelihara. Kasihan kata pak Jating.”, ujar Ibnu Anshari, alumni COP School Batch 1 yang merupakan ketua Tim trail Trans Borneo Challenge #1.

Akhirnya, setelah 9 hari melakukan perjalanan dari Jawa Timur, tim berhasil tiba di pusat rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo, Berau, Kalimantan Timur. Sebuah perjalanan yang menantang dan menarik. Tim menjadi saksi kondisi ibu bumi. Mendengarkan dan melihat langsung semakin hilangnya habitat orangutan di Kalimantan Timur.

ZAENAB FROM FISHERMAN’S HOUSE ON TALISE BEACH

To ease the pain, madam Zaenab raised her arms to the chest. Her arms looked swollen. The time when she run away from tsunami at fisherman area, Talise beach, East Palu, Central Sulawesi. Her house was the last house that survived the tsunami.

Madam Zaenab went back to her house, checking on the cats that used to gather around her house. There was no time to look after them. When she run away, she fell down and her hand hurts as she came to health centre post.

Madam Zaenab, as any other mother, returned to her house while looking for the cats that used to gather around in her yard. Like madam Ana near yellow bridge at Talise beach, Palu city icon. Madam Ana, as she awakened from her sleep she asked whether she’s already dead or not. She faintly heard cat’s sound. And she realised that she’s alive. “I still heard cat’s sound that was getting clearer and louder. And I saw it approaching me. I am still alive.”, Madam Ana said.

Now, madam Ana is taking care of the cats living nearby. She said that this will be her activity. Earthquake and Tsunami that hit Talise beach has ruined houses, places to find food, and of course the life of Palu residents. Not sure how many people that are disunited. Now, they are struggling to reunite their ruined hopes. (SAR)

ZAENAB DARI RUMAH NELAYAN PANTAI TALISE
Untuk mengurangi rasa sakitnya, ibu Zaenab mengangkat tangannya sedadanya. Tangannya terlihat bengkak. Saat melarikan diri dari tsunami di daerah nelayan, pantai Talise, Palu Timur, Sulawesi Tengah. Rumahnya menjadi rumah terakhir yang selamat dari terjangan tsunami.

Ibu Zaenab kembali lagi untuk mengecek keberadaan kucing-kucing yang biasanya berkumpul di rumahnya. Tak ada waktu untuk mencari kucing-kucing itu. Saat melarikan diri, dia terjatuh dan tangannya pun terasa sakit setibanya di posko Puskesmas.

Ibu Zaenab seperti ibu-ibu lainnya di Palu, kembali ke rumahnya sembari mengecek kucing-kucing yang biasanya berkumpul di halaman rumahnya. Seperti ibu Ana di pantai Talise dekat jembatan kuning, ikon kota Palu. Ibu Ana, tersadar dari tidurnya di posko. Apakah saya sudah mati? Sayup-sayup terdengar suara kucing. Dan dia pun tersadar bahwa dia masih hidup. “Masih ku dengar suara kucing yang semakin jelas dan keras. Lalu kulihat dia mendekati ku. Masih hiduplah aku.”, kata ibu Ana lagi.

Kini ibu Ana mengurus kucing-kucing di sekitarnya, ini akan jadi kesibukanku tersendiri, begitu katanya. Gempa dan Tsunami yang menerjang pantai Talise telah memporak-porandakan rumah, tempat mencari makan dan hidup warga Palu. Entah berapa ribu orang yang tercerai-berai. Kini mereka sedang berjuang menyatukan kembali puing-puing harapannya.
