THS HANDED THE TWO ORANGUTANS OVER TO THE COUNTRY
Yeay! Finally, the two orangutans that was in Siantar Zoo, North Sumatera was returned to the country to be rehabilitated. Both Sumateran orangutan were handed over by the locals of Sidikalang, Dairi district, a month ago. Physically, both of them have the ability to be rehabilitated before released back to their habitat.
The THS had rejected North Sumatera BKSDA demand when they tried to pick the two orangutans up to be rehabilitated. Dr. Ir. Hotmauli Sianturi, M.Sc,For, Head of Balai Besar KSDA North Sumatera said “According to the direction of the Regulation of Forestry Minister Number 57/Menhut-II/2008 concerning Strategic Directives for National Species Conservation 2008-2019 that Sumateran orangutan (Pongo abelii) is included in the category of “Very High Priority” with the direction of conservation management “insitu”. Thus, the two orangutans must be released to their habitat after going through a rehabilitation process.”
On August 1, 2018, at the Balai Besar KSDA North Sumatra office, the two orangutan was finally given up to Pematangsiantar Animal Park (THPS). “Centre for Orangutan Protection would like to thank all the Orangufriends (a group of orangutan supporter) who had participated in the campaign so that the two orangutans are rehabilitated, not in the zoo!”, said Rian Winardi, spokesman of COP Ex-situ Campaign. “Your like, share and comment made this campaign viral. These two orangutans will get the second chance to be back to nature!”, he added.
THS MENYERAHKAN DUA ORANGUTAN KE NEGARA
Yes! Akhirnya kedua orangutan yang berada di Taman Hewan Siantar, Sumatera Utara dikembalikan ke negara untuk direhabilitasi. Kedua orangutan Sumatera ini adalah penyerahan masyarakat Sidikalang, kabupaten Dairi, sebulan yang lalu. Secara fisik, keduanya memiliki kemampuan untuk direhabilitasi sebelum dilepasliarkan kembali ke habitatnya.
Pihak THS sempat menolak BKSDA Sumatera Utara saat menjemput kedua orangutan ini untuk direhabilitasi. Dr. Ir. Hotmauli Sianturi, M.Sc,For, Kepala Balai Besar KSDA Sumatera Utara mengatakan “Sesuai arahan Peraturan Menteri Kehutanan Nomor 57/Menhut-II/2008 tentang Arahan Strategis Konservasi Spesies Nasional 2008-2018 bahwa Orangutan Sumatera (Pongo abelii) termasuk dalam katergori “Prioritas Sangat Tinggi” dengan arahan pengelolaan pelestarian “Insitu”. Dengan demikian 2 (dua) Orangutan tersebut harus dilepasliarkan ke habitat alaminya setelah melalui proses rehabilitasi”.
Pada tanggal 1 Agustus 2018, bertempat di kantor Balai Besar KSDA Sumut, kedua orangutan ini akhirnya diserahkan Taman Hewan Pematangsiantar (THPS). “Centre for Orangutan Protection mengucapkan terimakasih pada seluruh orangufriends (kelompok pendukung orangutan) yang ikut pada kampanye agar kedua orangutan tersebut direhabilitasi, bukan di kebun binantang!”, ujar Rian Winardi, juru bicara kampanye eks-situ COP. “Like, share dan Comment kamu menjadikan kampanye ini viral. Kedua orangutan ini akan mendapatkan kesempatan keduannya untuk kembali ke alam!”, tambahnya.
