COP SCHOOL

Just like our kids who just got into school, there are times when they don’t want to separate from us. Woke up late, took a bath and had breakfast along with cries and in the end didn’t want to separate from you when you had arrived at the school gate. What a full of drama morning!

Popi, the orangutan baby is just like that. This morning after breakfast in the cage, Popi was carried out to the forest school. Oh no!!! She grasped even tighter when we arrived at the forest school. And her eye looks was… Who have the heart to force her to climb the trees?

It’s not too cold this morning, even the weather is at its best. But what can i do, Popi the orangutan baby who has been in orangutan rehabilitation center COP Borneo since her umbilical cord cut, doesn’t loosen her arms a bit. Popi had to lose her mother. Her mother subtitute is only her keeper who is currently held tight by her. (SAR)

DRAMA PAGI INI BERSAMA POPI
Seperti anakmu yang baru saja masuk sekolah. Ada kalanya tidak ingin berpisah darimu. Bangun terlambat, mandi dan sarapan diselingi tangisan dan akhirnya tidak mau lepas darimu saat sudah tiba di gerbang sekolah. Pagi yang penuh drama!

Popi, bayi orangutan ini pun seperti itu. Pagi ini usai sarapan di kandang, Popi digendong untuk ke sekolah hutan. Oh tidak!!! Pelukannya semakin erat saat tiba di sekolah hutan. Dan tatapan matanya… Tegakah memaksanya untuk memanjat pohon?

Pagi ini tidak terlalu dingin, bahkan cuaca sedang enak-enaknya. Tapi apa daya, Popi, bayi orangutan yang sejak pupak tali pusarnya sudah berada di pusat rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo ini tak juga mengendurkan pelukannya. Popi harus kehilangan induknya. Induk penggantinya, ya si penjaganya yang saat ini dipeluknya dengan erat saat ini.

Peluk Popi yuk… dengan terus menyumbang. Popi sama seperti anak-anak kita, yang punya mimpi untuk kembali liar ke habitat aslinya.

After being in quarantine cage for 5 months, the four orangutan release candidates are now back to the orangutan island. The return aims for the orangutan to get used to their natural characters before release. Those four candidates had gone through the last rehab process before return back to their original home, the rainforest of East Borneo.

Leci, Unyil, Untung, and Novi are the four lucky orangutans this year. “Transfering without anesthesia turned out to be quite difficult. These  four orangutans are already on wild stage, the animal keeper couldn’t avoid getting bitten by orangutan and got injured.”, said Rian Winardi, vet of COP.

Transportation from quarantine cage to the island was taken for 1 hour. This time the transfer was done very carefully so that the orangutans wouldn’t got stressed during the trip. As they came to the island,  and shortly after transportation cage was opened, the orangutans immediately ran towards the nearest trees. “That was a happy moment, looking at the orangutans climbing trees of their choice, in orangutan sanctuary island.” (SAR)

SELAMAT DATANG KEMBALI DI PULAU ORANGUTAN
Setelah berada di kandang karantina selama 5 bulan, kini keempat kandidat orangutan pelepasliaran dikembalikan ke pulau orangutan. Pengembalian ini untuk membiasakan kembali sifat alami orangutan sebelum dilepasliarkan. Keempat kandidat tersebut telah menjalani proses terakhir sebelum dikembalikan ke rumah aslinya, hutan hujan Kalimantan.

Leci, Unyil, Untung dan Novi adalah keempat orangutan yang beruntung tahun ini. “Pemindahan tanpa bius ini ternyata cukup sulit. Keempat orangutan ini sudah pada tahap liar, animal keeper tak luput dari gigitan orangutan dan mengalami luka-luka.”, ujar Rian Winardi, dokter hewan COP.

Transportasi dari kandang karantina ke pulau orangutan ditempuh selama satu jam. Pemindahan kali ini dilakukan dengan sangat hati-hati agar orangutan tidak mengalami stres selama perjalanan. Sesampai di pulau, dan sesaat setelah kandang transport dibuka, orangutan pun langsung berlari menuju pepohonan terdekat. “Itu adalah momen yang membahagiakan, melihat orangutan kembali memanjat pohon pilihannya, di pulau orangutan.”.
