ASTO STILL WANTS TO BE IN FOREST SCHOOL BUT SHE’S HUNGRY
I still remember how irritated Iwas that day. It was a lovely day at the beginning when I started my routine in SRA (Sumatran Rescue Alliance) at 8 A.M. As usual, I started with breakfast, then prepared the food, cleaned up the cage, and started Forest School time for Orangutan Asto and Asih.
I could hear the sound of the steel cage being shaken and I could see Asto and Asih peeking out from behind the tall bars, ready to get out of the cage. They seemed restless and couldn’t wait to get out and start the Forest School time. I saw them waiting right in front of the door when I opened the main gate. Then I unlocked the key to their cage and slid the doo cage. Asto even helped me slide the door! Then they climbed up straight to my back in such a rush! I carried them t the Forest School are. When we arrived, Asto and Asih didn’t wait to climb up the tree top. They looked so happy as I observed their social behavior when they played around fallen trees. It was their doings on the previous days. During forest school time, sometimes they came to me just to bite me. Other times they just observed whatever we’re doing, or roamed around jumping from one leafy tree to another just next to the Forest School are.
That evening, they both looked exhausted and hungry. The day got hotter and hotter. Asto and Asih looked so messy as they played on the ground. I thought maybe it’s time to put them in the cage. So I lured them with fruits and called them to get on my shoulders. I had put the fruit basket in their cage earlier but suddenly Asto took the fruit and claimed up so fast to the cage roof and hopped to the tree! He ate the fruit on that treetop, showing me that she still wants to be in the Forest School but she was hungry! I chuckled. Really, taking care of two rehabilitated orangutans who are getting smarter and stronger every day is no easy task! (BIL)
ASTO MASIH INGIN SEKOLAH HUTAN TAPI LAPAR
Hari itu merupakan hari yang menjengkelkan bagiku. Ketika pagi yang cerah dan penuh semangat, ku mulai tepat pukul 08.00 WIB. Seperti biasa kami memulai aktivitas di SRA (Sumatran Rescue Alliance) dengan sarapan, menyiapkan pakan, membersihkan kandang dan kemudian sekolah hutan untuk orangutan bernama Asto dan Asih.
Dari kejauhan terdengar suara gemuruh kandang besi yang digoyangkan dan terlihat Asto dan Asih yang sedang mengintip di balik pagar yang tinggi dengan wajah berharap untuk keluar kandang. Keduanya terlihat sudah tidak sabar untuk sekolah hutan. Ku buka pintu utama untuk masuk ke dalam area kandang orangutan dan melihat keduanya telah berada di depan pintu kandangnya untuk bersiap keluar. Kubuka kunci dan menggeser pintu kandangnya, dengan sigap Asto membantu menggeser pintu lalu keduanya meraih punggungku untuk digendong ke area sekolah hutan. Sesampainya di area sekolah hutan, Asto dan Asih dengan segera menaiki pohon. Keduanya terlihat gembira sembari melakukan sosial behavior di pepohonan yang sudah banyak tumbang karena ulah mereka sebelumnya. Sesekali keduanya menghampiriku untuk sekedar menggigit, memperhatikan dan lari ke area pepohonan yang lebih rimbun di sebelah sekolah hutan.
Kala itu Asto dan Asih terlihat kelelahan dan lapar. Hari semakin siang dan terik. Keduanya sudah tidak karuan bermain di area tanah. Mungkin saatnya membawa mereka kembali ke kandang, pikir ku. Dengan pancingan buah aku membujuk Asto dan Asih naik ke pundakku. Keranjang buah pakan Asto dan Asih telah kuletakkan di dalam kandang sebelumnya. Asih pun masuk ke dalam kandang namun dengan lincahnya Asto meraih buah dan naik ke atas kandang luar dan naik ke atas atap kandang lalu menaiki pohon yang berada di area kandang. Asto memakan buah di pohon tersebut sebagai isyarat belum puas sekolah hutan namun kelaparan. Sungguh, ternyata tak mudah mengurus dua orangutan rehabilitasi yang semakin hari semakin pintar dan kuat. (BIL)
