INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CHARITY
Raju, a juvenile orangutan was found in the palm oil concession in Kutai Timur, East Kalimantan. After four years living as a pet, the APE Crusader team rescued Raju and moved him to COP Borneo rehabilitation center. Raju then changed his name to Jojo. We conducted a full medical check-up of his health and behavioral study for 2 months. The result is displeasing. Jojo has hepatitis, possibly contagious by humans.
Memo, an orangutan who used to ride a motorbike with her owner and travel around from village to villages. Memo has joined COP rehabilitation center since 11 April 2015. She is 18 years old now but has a somber future. Memo has hepatitis because she contacted with humans numerous times in the past.
Both of these orangutans will live forever in the cage. The quarantine cages which is limiting their space and movement. They will live behind solid bars, without any chance to feel the fresh air in their habitat. They did not have hepatitis by natural causes. It is transmitted by humans.
Memo and Jojo still have a dream to climb the highest tree, to swing from one tree to another, like the other orangutans do. We also had a dream, to create the first and the only orangutan rehabilitation center that is built and organized by Indonesian people. This dream came true in 2014. Now, our homework is to actualize Memo and Jojo’s dream. Let’s help COP Borneo to buy an island as a sanctuary for Jojo and Memo. They have a right to live as wild orangutans, not in the cage!

Orangutan bernama Raju ini ditemukan di kebun sawit, Kutai Timur, Kalimantan Timur. Setelah 4 tahun dalam pemeliharaan warga, keberadaan Raju diketahui tim APE Crusader. 4 April 2018 yang lalu, Raju pun masuk pusat rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo dan berganti nama menjadi Jojo. Serangkaian pemeriksaan kesehatan dan evaluasi prilaku dilalui Jojo selama dua bulan penuh. Dan hasil yang sangat mengecewakan pun keluar. Jojo menderita hepatitis dari manusia.
Memo, orangutan yang selalu dibonceng naik sepeda motor oleh pemeliharanya dan diajak berkeliling desa masuk ke pusat rehabilitasi orangutan pada 11 April 2015. Orangutan betina yang berusia 18 tahun ini pun dibayangi masa depan yang suram. Dari hasil laboratorium, Memo menderita hepatitis.
Kedua orangutan COP Borneo ini akan hidup di dalam kandang. Kandang karantina yang terbatas pada ruang dan geraknya. Hidup di balik jeruji besi tanpa ada masa depan untuk dilepasliarkan ke habitatnya. Hepatitis yang diderita mereka adalah penularan dari manusia.
Memo dan Jojo masih punya mimpi untuk bisa memanjat pohon yang tinggi, berpindah dari satu pohon ke pohon yang lain sebagai orangutan yang memiliki daya jelajah terbatas. Seperti mimpi kami yang berada di pusat rehabilitasi orangutan satu-satunya yang didirikan putra-putri Indonesia. Pusat rehabilitasi lokal yang sudah berdiri sejak 2014 yang lalu. Mari bantu COP Borneo untuk membeli sebuah pulau sebagai sanctuary island untuk Jojo dan Memo. Mereka pun berhak untuk hidup liar!
