DEBBIE FOUND IN KELAY RIVER

The discovery of a human-like figure near IPA Sambalung PDAM, Berau, East Kalimantan on Thursday afternoon, 12 April 2018 shocked the COP Borneo team. Sadness so enveloped Tim that Tim finally arrived at RSUD Abdul Rivai to make sure the corpse was an orangutan.

After measuring the distance of the eyes and body and checking the tooth structure, the corpses of the orangutans who had not been in the intact state were closely approached physically to the disappearance of the Debbie orangutan since late March.

The team’s effort down the Kelay river for a whole week since its disappearance did not work. That still leaves Debbie hope to survive. “Every time we send food to the island and patrol we are still looking for Debbie. But now, that hope is gone. Debbie is dead, “Inoy said sadly.

Debbie is a deceased orangutan living in a cage. Female orangutans from the Botanical Garden of Unmul Samarinda are entrusted to COP Borneo orangutan rehabilitation center. On March 1, 2018, Debbie had the opportunity to be released on the island of orangutans. The island that will be a place to live forever because of the possibility to be released into the habitat is almost impossible because of Debbie’s previous life history that is always in the cage.

The development of Debbie on the island is quite astonishing. Debbie makes a hiding place or a nest on the ground. He can completely disguise and disappear to avoid Ambon, the male orangutan that was once a cage with him in KRUS. Debbie also managed to climb a tree as high as 15 meters. “Thank you Debbie, you have made us happy to see you live on the island during the month of March. Watching your progress once made us cry happily. And now we are crying sadly with your departure.”. (Dhea_Orangufriends)

Menyaksikan perkembanganmu pernah membuat kami menangis bahagia. Dan kini kami menangis sedih dengan kepergianmu.”.
