SHANTI, THE QUEEN OF COP BORNEO’S KITCHEN

Shanti, the tiny-figured and pretty lady, is the one that ensures the staffs of COP Borneo have got enough ‘ammo’. The ammo was not for guns, but breakfast, lunch and dinner for the staffs. Shanti cooks the meals until it is ready to prepared. “I wake up the earliest, and start cooking before the staffs’s activity begin. They have to have breakfast first before starting their day.” stated Shanti, COP household staff.

Shanti is still young, she was born on 1996 in Bulungan, North Kalimantan. Both of her parents are Dayak people. Since June 2016, Shanti joined COP Borneo. Ensuring all the gears are clean, making shopping list, taking care of the meals and when to shop are her responsibility. The distance between COP to nearest market is 1.5 hours away, so Shanti has to be careful on making the shopping list.

When she was asked what is the staff’s favorite meal, she said while chuckling, “Mendoan. The guys love Mendoan. Mendoan is fried tempe with some flour and seasoning, but it’s not deep fried.”

And what are the pros and cons of working for COP? “The pros are having a lot of friends that’s like family, and working here is such a distinguished experience to me. The cons.. When the rain falls and we run out of stocks.”. But don’t worry.. “I will get some vegetables from my parent’s field when we are out of stocks and it’s not time to go to the market yet.” said Shanti with a smile. (Zahra_Orangufriends)

SHANTI, PENGUASA DAPUR COP BORNEO
Shanti dengan badannya yang kecil, cantik dan cekatan memastikan “amunisi” untuk para staf COP Borneo. Amunisi yang dimaksud, bukanlah untuk senapan, namun merupakan makanan pagi, siang dan malam yang akan dikonsumsi para staf. Shanti meracik bumbu, memasak hingga menjadi hidangan. “Saya bangun paling awal dan memulai memasak ketika aktivitas teman-teman belum di mulai. Teman-teman harus sarapan dulu sebelum beraktivitas.”, ujar Shanti bagian rumah tangga COP Borneo.

Usia Shanti tergolong muda, dia kelahiran 1996 di Bulungan, Kalimantan Utara. Kedua orangtuanya berasal dari suku dayak. Sejak Juni 2016, Shanti bergabung di COP Borneo. Memastikan perlengkapan COP Borneo bersih, menyusun daftar belanjaan, mengatur menu makanan dan kapan harus belanja bahan kebutuhan pokok harus dijalaninya. Jarak pasar dengan COP Borneo sekitar 1,5 jam sekali tempuh, maka Shanti harus teliti dalam perhitungan dan penentuan daftar belanja.

Ketika ditanya masakan apa yang menjadi favorit teman-teman COP Borneo, Shanti menjawab sambil tertawa, “Mendoan. Teman-teman sangat suka mendoan. Mendoan adalah tempe yang digoreng dengan larutan tepung bumbu dan digoreng tidak kering.”.

Mau tahu suka duka bekerja di COP Borneo versi Shanti? “Sukanya kerja di sini, saya punya banyak saudara dan pengalaman yang sangat berbeda. Dukanya… jika hujan dan bahan makanan habis.”. Tapi jangan kawatir, “Shanti akan mengambilkan sayuran dari ladang ibu dan bapaknya ketika bahan habis dan belum waktunya turun ke kota untuk belanja.”, ujar Shanti dengan senyum lepas. (WET)
