COP SCHOOL

Unyil is the name of one of orangutans in orangutan rehabilitation centre located in Berau regency, East Kalimantan. Unyil has his own story that is quite unbelievable. This young orangutan which once kept as pet by locals in Muara Wahau, was living in a bathroom for 3 years. He was only 2 years old at that time.. still a cute and adorable baby. He was bought by Ngau family for IDR 1.500.000,00 from others.

“We didn’t expect that unyil’s progress would be that fast. From a spoiled baby orangutan which had to be fed by Ngau family to eat, even we were surprised seeing his hair straight as if his hair was just straighten. The first time he joined the forest school, he was just shuffling on the ground and confused when he was given orangutan food. Until finally, he successfully climbed the trees and moved from one tree to another. And his courage to survive on the orangutan island convinced us that Unyil deserves the real forest.”, said Reza Kurniawan, COP primate observer.

The release of orangutans is not as easy as people think it is, like just open the transit cage and let the orangutan free. There are a very detailed medical test to ensure the orangutan is in a good condition of health without any infectious disease. Therefore, COP Borneo medical team carried out a series of medical check-up which included a complete blood test, and several infectious diseases tests such as hepatitis, herpes, and tuberculosis.

Thankfully, laboratory results state that Unyil is clear. Unyil prepares for the next step, waiting for administration from the authorities to release him to his habitat. (SAR)

UNYIL, SELANGKAH LAGI AKAN KEMBALI KE HABITATNYA
Unyil adalah nama orangutan di pusat rehabilitasi orangutan yang berada di kabupaten Berau, Kalimantan Timur. Unyil punya cerita tersendiri yang membuat orang tak percaya. Anak orangutan yang dipelihara warga Muara Wahau, selama 3 tahun hidup di dalam kamar mandi. Saat itu dia berusia 2 tahun… masih bayi yang lucu dan menggemaskan. Dibeli keluarga Ngau sebesar Rp 1.500.000,00 dari orang lain.

“Kami tak menyangka, perkembangan Unyil begitu pesat. Dari anak orangutan yang begitu manja yang untuk makan saja selalu didulangi keluarga Ngau bahkan waktu itu kami heran sekali dengan rambutnya yang seperti baru saja direbonding. Masuk kelas sekolah hutan hanya bisa ngesot di lantai hutan/tanah dan kebingungan saat diberi makanan orangutan. Hingga akhirnya dia berhasil memanjat pohon dan berpindah dari satu pohon ke pohon yang lain. Dan keberaniannya bertahan di pulau orangutan membuat kami yakin, Unyil pantas untuk hutan yang sesungguhnya.”, ujar Reza Kurniawan, pengamat primata COP.

Pelepasliaran orangutan tak semudah yang diperkirakan orang awam. Buka kandang transit dan orangutan bebas lepas. Ada tes kesehatan yang sangat detil, untuk memastikan orangutan yang dilepasliarkan dalam keadaan sehat tanpa penyakit menular. Untuk itu, tim medis COP Borneo melakukan serangkaian tes kesehatan yang meliputi darah lengkap, dan beberapa penyakit menular seperti hepatitis, herpes hingga Tuberkulosis.

Syukurlah, hasil laboratorium menyatakan Unyil bersih. Unyil bersiap ke langkah selanjutnya, menunggu administrasi dari pihak berwenang untuk pelepasliarannya ke habitatnya.

But once in the forest school, the situation becomes turned 180 degrees. Annie who always wanted to challenge Happi and Owi could not do much. Happi always tried to bite and pursue Annie, wherever Annie went. Owi did not want to lose. The first day of school became more and more difficult for Annie.

The forest school has lasted half a day. Animal keeper is busy continuously separating Annie and Happi fights. Annie also looked very tired and wanted to give up. But Happi continued to approach Annie and invite a fight. Maybe this is a welcome statement to Annie from Happi. (WET)

BULLYING DI HARI PERTAMA ANNIE
Ya ampun… di awal kelas sekolah hutan COP Borneo, Kalimantan Timur, satu orang peserta telah membuat kericuhan. Annie, si pendatang baru menatap Happi dengan galaknya. Tak hanya Happi, Annie pun menunjukkan sikap tidak ramahnya pada Owi. Bahkan Owi sempat mendapatkan satu pukulan dari Annie dalam perjalanan menuju sekolah hutan.

Tapi sesampainya di sekolah hutan, situasi menjadi berbalik 180 derajat. Annie yang selalu ingin menantang Happi dan Owi tak bisa berbuat banyak. Happi selalu berusaha menggigit dan mengejar Annie, kemana pun Annie pergi. Owi pun tak mau kalah. Hari pertama sekolah menjadi semakin sulit buat Annie.

Sekolah hutan telah berlangsung setengah hari. Animal keeper sibuk terus menerus memisahkan perkelahian Annie dan Happi. Annie pun terlihat sangat capek dan ingin menyerah. Namun Happi terus mendekati Annie dan mengajak berkelahi. Mungkin ini adalah ucapan selamat datang untuk Annie dari Happi. (WET)
