Taking sputum sample of orangutan is a tension of its own. “From COP Borneo orangutan rehabilitation center to the town of Berau already takes 90 minutes. Not to mention fly from Berau, transit in Balikpapan, and arrive in Jakarta. And then continue from the airport to Microbiology Laboratorium of Universitas Indonesia which traffic is unpredictable.” explained Ryan Winardi, the vetenarian of COP Borneo. The sample is impossible to send via expedition because it can only last within 24 hours. Plus, the temperatur should be kept in the range of 4-8 degrees Celcius.
But, the difficulty paid off when arrived at the laboratory and the sample still in a good condition. The result which can be known a week later is also a thrilling waiting. And if it fails, the calculation of cost and time will overshadow. The result is… Yes… the light-footed Leci can be released.
Step by step, rehabilitation of orangutan leci goes. Of course, all of this is supported by all parties, including goverments, individuals, and other institution. SAMPEL DAHAK ORANGUTAN LECI, BERSIH
Pembawaan sampel dahak orangutan merupakan ketegangan tersendiri. “Dari pusat rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo ke kota Berau saja sudah 90 menit. Belum lagi terbang dari Berau, transit di Balikpapan dan ke Jakarta. Lanjut lagi bandara ke Laboratorium Mikrobiologi UI yang macetnya sulit diprediksi.”, urai Ryan Winardi, dokter hewan COP Borneo. Sampel mustahil dikirim lewat ekspedisi karena sampel hanya bisa bertahan dalam waktu 24 jam. Selain itu, suhu yang menjaga sampel tersebut harus dalam kisaran 4-8 derajat celsius.
Namun kesulitan itu terbayar saat sampai laboratorium dan sampel masih berada dalam kondisi baik. Hasil yang dapat diketahui seminggu kemudian juga merupakan penantian yang mendebarkan. Dan jika gagal, kalkulasi biaya dan waktu pun membayangi. Hasilnya… Yes… si lincah Leci bisa dilepasliarkan kembali.
Tahap demi tahap rehabilitasi orangutan Leci berjalan. Tentu saja ini atas dukungan semua pihak baik pemerintah, perorangan dan lembaga lainnya. Saat ini, Leci menunggu lampu hijau lokasi pelepasliaran. Lokasi yang kelak menjadi rumah baginya.
