AMBON ACHIEVE HIS DREAM

Luar biasa! Kalau dulu Didik, orangutan yang belasan tahun berada di kandang Kebun Binatang Jurug Solo atau Taman Satwa Taru Jurug butuh waktu 2 minggu untuk akhirnya memanjat pohon pertamanya. Berbeda dengan Ambon. Orangutan Ambon yang telah puluhan tahun berada di kandang Kebun Raya Samarinda hanya butuh waktu tiga jam untuk akhirnya memanjat pohon.
“Sempat kawatir… Ambon tidak bisa memanjat pohon. Selama ini dia hanya memanjat jeruji besi untuk menuju hammock nya. Kita juga persiapan mungkin akan lebih dari dua minggu untuk Ambon bisa memanjat pohon. Luar biasa… perkiraan kami meleset semua. Ini sangat menggembirakan.”, ujar Daniek Hendarto, manajer program ex-situ COP.
Tepat 1 Maret 2018 yang lalu, orangutan Ambon yang telah berusia 25 tahun dipindahkan ke sebuah pulau dengan luas sekitar 2 ha. Pulau ini akan menjadi rumah terakhir untuknya mengingat lamanya Ambon berada di kandang selama ini. Sesaat setelah pintu kandang transit dibuka, Ambon terlihat dengan cepat ke luar kandang. Berdiam sambil melihat sekitar. Tak lama kemudian, Ambon terlihat berlari ke arah pepohonan. Bersembunyi… atau mungkin lebih tepatnya mengamati apakah dia dikejar atau tidak. Ambon terlihat mengintip… mengamati situasi pulau… namun belum terlihat manaiki pohon.
“Tepat tiga jam semenjak kandang transit dibuka, Ambon mulai menyentuh pohon dan memanjatnya. Tapi mereka masih belum begitu jauh dari kandang transit.”, ujar Reza Kurniawan, manajer pusat rehabilitasi COP Borneo dan seorang antropolog primata. “Kami semua bahagia melihat kebebasan ini.!”. (EJA)
