PERPETUATE DEBBIE IN A PHOTO FRAME
Debbie is a ferocious female orangutan. Oops… ferocious? How can we not call her ferocious. All animal keepers who take care of enclosure 1 which is a quarantine cage had been thee victim. Not only human, the commodity barely missed by her.
Who know how many rolls of hoses are destroyed by Debbie. When the animal keeper sprayed water to clean the enclosure, in the blink of an eye, Debbie grabbed it and picked it up. Do not expect the hoses to be back in one piece.
Debbie is also very brave with the animal keeper. Clothes of the animal keeper been vandalized. Getting the grip of her hand was a terror while on duty at the enclosure 1. “Certainly, don’t be off guard when on duty in this quarantine cage,” said Reza Kurniawan, manager of COP Borneo orangutan rehabilitation center.
Reza himself had been injured on his back. “Perhaps Debbie wants to say hello to me. But that power, is very great.” Recalls Reza.
Well, this is the biggest challenge to perpetuate Debbie with no visible bars as the foreground. A.k.a, Debbie’s face should be clearly visible. The condition of this cage is in the middle of the forest. The canopy of the trees looks fused, so the sunlight is difficult to break through. Borneo orangutan’s own hair is also darker than it’s relatives in Sumatra. Plus, this Debbie ferocity, make knees give away.

MENGABADIKAN DEBBIE DALAM SEBUAH FRAME FOTO
Debbie adalah orangutan betina yang ganas. Ups… ganas? Bagaimana tidak kami sebut ganas. Semua animal keeper yang mengurus kandang 1 yang merupakan kandang karantina pernah menjadi korbannya. Tak hanya manusia, barang-barang pun tak luput darinya.
Entah sudah berapa gulung selang yang hancur oleh Debbie. Saat animal keeper menyemprotkan air untuk membersihkan kandang, dalam sekejap mata, Debbie meraihnya dan mengambilnya. Jangan harap selang bisa kembali dalam keadaan utuh.
Debbie juga sangat berani dengan animal keeper. Baju yang dipakai animal keeper pun pernah menjadi korbannya. Mendapatkan cengkraman tangannya adalah teror tersendiri saat bertugas di kandang 1. “Yang pasti, jangan lengah sedikit pun saat bertugas di kandang karantina ini.”, ujar Reza Kurniawan, manajer pusat rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo.
Reza sendiri pernah terluka di punggungnya. “Mungkin maksudnya Debbie ingin menyapaku. Tapi apa daya, kekuatannya besar sekali.”, kenang Reza.
Nah, ini adalah tantangan terbesar untuk mengabadikan Debbie tanpa terlihat jeruji besi sebagai latar depan. Alias, wajah Debbie harus terlihat jelas. Kondisi kandang 1 ini berada di tengah hutan. Kanopi-kanopi pohon terlihat menyatu, sehingga cahaya matahari sulit menerobos kandang. Rambut orangutan Kalimantan sendiri juga lebih gelap dibanding kerabatnya yang di Sumatera. Ditambah lagi, keganasan Debbie ini, bikin lutut bergetar.
Setelah mondar-mandir mencari waktu dan kesempatan yang pas, akhirnya… yes! “Berhasil memotret Debbie!!!”, senyum Wety Rupiana senang. (WET)
