SHE IS LECI, THE LITTLE ONE WHOSE NOT SMALL AGAIN

Where is the orangutan? Who is she? There, on the tree! Seeing semi-wild orangutan from observed cams will be its own specialty. There are food fight, some choose to be alone, some prefer to observe or some can not be silent. This time. Leci was caught on a tree, looking at us watching her from across the island.

Leci is a small orangutan who enters the COP Borneo orangutan rehabilitation center when she’s 2 year old. Her tiny body was fragile to hold. Someone found her alone in the middle of a garden of Kebon Agung Village, Sangattam, East Kalimantan. Yes.. she is a very wild little one. Leci seems to have split up with her mother. She also looks still very scared. Maybe her mother died when she had to protect her. Baby orangutan will continue with the mother until the age of 6-8 years. During that time, her mother will nurture her. Not only breastfeeding but also teaching independent orangutans, choosing edible food, making temporary nest and permanent nests, climbing, swinging and even protecting themselves from predators.

“We are worried, Leci will become tame if it continues in the enclosure,” said Paulinus Kristanto. After going through the quarantine period by observing her health, Leci seems to be getting used to the presence of the animal keeper. “Jus in Two months, Leci was not afraid of humans anymore. It’s been her bad report”.

The plan to put Leci into a forest school did not go smoothly. How could we keep a wild orangutan? “We want to cry when Leci does not want to go down. She quickly disappeared. Pursuing small orangutans that are nimble and wild is not easy. Leci did not even want to go down at all. Swinging from one canopy to another and invisible in the thickness of the canopy. Enough… one time only she went to forest school. We cannot afford it, “ said the animal keeper.

After one year, this is Leci. Little Leci is not small anymore. But Leci remained wild. We will see how she was later. The time to be released again. Maybe she was inspect the escape route from this pre-release island. “Leci.. continue practicing ok!”, shout Reza Kurniawan, COP Borneo Manager eager.(Dhea_Orangufriends)

DIA ADALAH LECI, SI MUNGIL YANG TAK KECIL LAGI
Ada dimanakah orangutannya? Siapakah dia?

Bagaimana mungkin, kami menjaga orangutan liar? Cukup… 1 kali saja dia masuk sekolah hutan. Kami tak sanggup.”, begitu kata animal keeper.

Setelah satu tahun, inilah Leci. Leci yang mungil tak kecil lagi. Tapi Leci tetap liar. “Leci… latihan terus ya!”, teriak Reza Kurniawan, manajer COP Borneo bersemangat.
