Kondisi Taman Nasional Kutai (TNK) kian memprihatinkan. Beragam aktivitas perambahan di hutan konservasi seluas 198.629 hektare ini terus terjadi, dan kian merajalela. Selain aktivitas pembalakan liar, ancaman nyata datang dari aktivitas jual beli lahan yang diduga dilakukan masyarakat setempat.

Hal ini, diungkapkan Kepala Seksi Pengelolaan TNK wilayah Sangatta, Hernowo Supriyanto, beberapa waktu lalu, di Balai Sangkima. Hernowo mengungkapkan, tidak hanya terkonversi menjadi pemukiman dan perkebunan warga. Area TNK khususnya yang berlokasi di sepanjang poros Bontang-Sangatta rawan terjadi transaksi jual beli tanah.
