RELEASING NOVI AND LECI IN THIS NOVEMBER

There was no dramatic moment when the former rehab orangutans of COP Borneo were released. No orangutan hugged his nurse to say goodbye. Nor does anyone come down to give a flower as orangutans do to conservation experts. Everything was fast and spontaneously. When we release orangutans from the cage, there are only two possibilities: Jump and climb trees as high as possible and then disappear or attack people.

November 3rd is a thrilling day for the Center for Orangutan Protection family. This was our second orangutan release after a year earlier. In 2017, we released orangutan from the zoo, named Oki. Oki managed to make an achievement as an orangutan who used to live behind bars and could go back wild. Now, Novi and Leci also get their chance to return to their habitat.

Novi, previously kept under a house with chains around his neck. In April 2015, Novi was rescued from Kongbeng, East Kalimantan. His body was so small because of lack of nutrition, as he did not eat proper food for orangutans. At that time, Novi made friends with dogs.

3 November menjadi hari yang mendebarkan keluarga Centre for Orangutan Protection.

A TALE BEFORE SLEEP FOR PALU CHILDREN

Due date of the Palu earthquake and tsunami disaster response that was extended to October 26 has come. Novi Fani Rovika, Orangufriends from Padang who has been a volunteer for Animals Warrior team in Central Sulawesi from October 18 will be back to West Sumatra soon. Hundreds of dogs and cats in Petobo and Balaroa was successfully being fed from donations on https://kitabisa.com/bantusatwapalu . Not only feed them, there was several dogs and cats that had to be evacuated to the shelter to get some treatment because of their condition.

There was not much time left, but the desire to meet the children in the refugee camp was the reason to go out on the last night in Palu. It’s simple, armed with a fable book, Novi started the night by storytelling. A tale before sleep for Palu children.

“Their school might be ruined by tsunami and went down by liquefaction. But it won’t shed their enthusiasm in learning. They’re not traumatise, even though the anxiety is still there. Even if they don’t know how long they will live in tents, they have to keep learning. Falling crumb one must be content with crust. Unable to study at school, they can still study in the middle of tent’s dim light. It’s this little thing that will be useful later. After all, they have to recover soon. Although sometimes it’s sad and heartbreaking, but they’re steadfast, even strong!, said Novi closing the night. (SAR)

Tapi takkan mampu merontokkan semangat belajar mereka.

DELAYED ONE DAY, THIS ORANGUTAN FINALLY GOT RESCUED

His body is skinny, just look at him, he has no muscles and fats mass. This male orangutan is being kept in a wooden box with size of 100 cm x 100 cm x50 in cm. Previously, the orangutan was put in a larger cage, but he destroyed it and then he moved to a box without a door.

The 6-hours journey was taken by APE Defender team to Meratak village, Bengalon, East Kutai, East Kalimantan. Without stopping, the team was hoping they could immediately took the orangutan. But what could they say, the team from Samarinda suffered a tire break. Therefore, we had to stayed the night.

The day after, APE Defender team from Berau and BKSDA team from Samarinda were be able to meet and evacuate the orangutan that had been kept by the locals since 2014. The locals story that the orangutan was dangerous didn’t make the team anaestize him in hurry. The team slowly approached the orangutan, fed him, and stole his trust. Slowly, until finally he wanted to be carried by one of COP’s founder, Hardi Baktiantoro. “Very thin, hopefully he can get better and get his second chance to go back in nature.”, said Hardi.
