JOJO IN COP BORNEO FOREST SCHOOL

We haven’t heard about Jojo for a long time. Jojo is a baby orangutan who entered COP Borneo orangutan rehabilitation center in April 2018. Jojo must take a long and extra care medical check-up process. From the prior examination, Jojo was declared to have hepatitis. After going through PCR testing, hepatitis suffered by Jojo is hepatitis of orangutan strain. Thus, the medical team allowed Jojo to enter the forest school.

Do you still remember when you entered school for the first time? Afraid? Confused? Feeling alone? That is what Jojo experienced, an orangutan who finally got his chance into the COP Borneo forest school. Jojo sat on the ground, playing alone while sweeping dry leaves with his hands. Then, other orangutans are interested in the new orangutan they just met. Curiosity starts from just staring, then continue with touching even biting. Jojo also experienced that. Other orangutan babies such as Owi, Bonti, Happi, Popi and even Annie, who were still just entering the forest school, joined in.

“Come on Jojo, you can do it. Adapt quickly. Be wild, remember your time with your mother”, said Joni with full hope. Jojo will continue to be accompanied by an animal keeper until he can adjust to other baby orangutans. “Hopefully it doesn’t take too long. Every orangutan has a unique way. It cannot be determined the length of time needed for each orangutan to achieve certain abilities. But proper stimulation can speed up the process”. (IND)

JOJO DI KELAS SEKOLAH HUTAN COP BORNEO
Lama tidak mendengar kabar dari Jojo, bayi orangutan yang masuk pusat rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo bulan April 2018 yang lalu. Pemeriksaan kesehatan yang panjang dan ekstra teliti harus dijalani Jojo. Hasil pemeriksaan di awal, Jojo menderita Hepatitis. Dan setelah melalui pengujian PCR, Hepatitis yang diderita Jojo adalah strain orangutan, akhirnya tim medis mengijinkan Jojo masuk kelas sekolah hutan.

Masih ingatkah saat kamu masuk sekolah pertama kali? Takut? Bingung? Merasa sendirian? Seperti itulah yang dialami Jojo, orangutan yang akhirnya bisa masuk kelas sekolah hutan COP Borneo. Jojo duduk di tanah, bermain sendiri sambil menyapu-nyapu daun kering dengan tangannya. Dan orangutan lain pun tertarik dengan orangutan yang baru mereka temui. Rasa ingin tahu itu mulai dari hanya menatap, lalu menyentuh bahkan menggigit. Jojo pun mengalami itu, bayi-bayi orangutan lain seperti Owi, Bonti, Happi, Popi bahkan Annie yang juga masih baru masuk kelas sekolah hutan, ikut menganggunya.

“Ayo Jojo, kamu pasti bisa. Cepatlah beradaptasi. Kembalilah liar, ingatlah masa-masa mu bersama indukmu.”, ujar Joni penuh harapan. Jojo akan terus didampingi animal keeper hingga dia bisa menyesuaikan diri dengan bayi orangutan lainnya. “Semoga tidak memakan waktu terlalu lama. Setiap orangutan punya cara yang unik. Sehingga tidak bisa ditentukan waktu yang dibutuhkan setiap orangutan untuk mencapai kemampuan tertentu. Tapi stimulasi yang tepat dapat mempercepat sebuah proses. (JON)

5 YEARS TIGHT IN CHAIN, 4 YEARS IN REHAB, FINALLY NOVI RETURNED

In November 2014, COP met orangutan Novi for the first time. Novi was put on the side of the house with a rope around his neck for 5 years so he could not go anywhere. Novi was not alone. He had some dogs as friends since childhood. Poor Novi. He is a victim of forest destruction by a palm oil company that destroys his home and his source of food.

Novi underwent all rehabilitation processes to re-recognize the forest. 4 years in rehab was full of stories and memories, especially on how Novi met other orangutans at the COP Borneo rehabilitation center. Now, he turned out to be the first one who has to say goodbye to the other orphans at COP Borneo. Novi released to the forest who had been waiting for him for a long time where he should be.

Welcome to your new adventure in the forest that we promised you 4 years ago, Novi. The cage is not your home anymore.

Thank you the great team for realizing Novi’s dream to release back to the forest. Our tears are not sadness but happiness to see him run out of the cage towards the trees, celebrating his freedom. (IND)

5 TAHUN DIRANTAI, 4 TAHUN DIREHAB AKHIRNYA NOVI KEMBALI KERUMAHNYA

Pada tahun 2014 bulan November, COP bertemu Orangutan Novi pertama kali. Iya diletakan di samping rumah dengan tali di lehernya selama 5 tahun agar ia tidak dapat pergi kemana pun saat pemilik rumah sedang berpergian. Novi tidak sendiri, beberapa anjing setia bermain dengannya dan mereka sudah berteman sejak kecil. Novi yang malang adalah korban dari perusakan hutan oleh sebuah perusahan sawit yang merusak rumah dan tempatnya mencari makan.

Tepat 4 tahun setelah cerita itu, Novi menjalani semua proses rehabilitasi untuk membiasakan ia kembali mengenali hutan. 4 tahun yang penuh dengan cerita dan catatan kenangan, bagaimana novi bertemu dengan orangutan lainnya di pusat rehabilitasi COP Borneo. Ia ternyata harus mengucapkan selamat tinggal lebih dahulu dari teman-teman yatim piatu lainnya yang berada di COP Borneo, Novi kembali ke hutan yang telah menunggunya sejak lama dimana seharusnya ia berada.

Selamat menempuh petualangan baru di hutan yang pernah kita janjikan kepada mu 4 tahun lalu, sebab kandang bukanlah rumahmu lagi.

COP AS THE BEST ENVIRONMENTAL CSO IN 2018

Today, the Center for Orangutan Protection received an Award from the Indonesian government as the best community organization of environment in 2018. The award was given directly by Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Tjahjo Kumolo. Besides the environmental sector, the government also gave awards to community organizations in health, education, culture, and other sectors.

This award was the first to be received by COP from the Indonesian government. COP was founded in 2007 and is the first and the only orangutan conservation organization native to Indonesia. The existence of COP has an impact not only for orangutans but also for local communities and various species of wildlife.

Thank you for all the trust and support of COP supporters and COP volunteers who are members of Orangufriends. This award belongs to all of you who have been working hard to combat wildlife crime.(IND)

COP SEBAGAI ORMAS LINGKUNGAN HIDUP TERBAIK 2018
Pada hari ini Pusat Perlindungan Orangutan mendapatkan Penghargaan dari Pemerintah Indonesia sebagai organisasi masyarakat di bidang lingkungan hidup terbaik tahun 2018. Penghargaan diberikan langsung oleh Menteri Dalam Negeri Tjahjo Kumolo. Selain bidang lingkungan hidup, pemerintah juga memberikan penghargaan kepada organisasi-organisasi masyarakat di bidang kesehatan, pendidikan, kebudayaan dan lain-lain.

Penghargaan ini adalah yang pertama diterima Pusat Perlindungan Orangutan atau lebih dikenal dengan Centre for Orangutan Protection (COP) dari pemerintah Indonesia. COP didirikan pada tahun 2007 dan merupakan oraganisasi konservasi orangutan yang pertama dan satu-satunya yang asli Indonesia. Keberadaan COP berdampak tidak hanya untuk orangutan tetapi juga untuk berbagai jenis satwa liar lainnya dan masyarakat setempat.
