FIVE YEARS OF COP BORNEO ORANGUTAN RESCUE CENTER
Orangutan Rescue Center program is a joint work between the East Kalimantan Natural Resources Conservation Center and the Dipterokarpa Forest Ecosystem Research and Development Center. Infrastructure development was carried out in stages establish 1 block of quarantine cages, 1 block of socialization cages, 1 block of adult orangutan pens, 1 clinic, 1 employee mess, 1 kitchen, 2 bathrooms / toilets and 1 fruit warehouse. Throughout 2014 to 2019, Borneo COP has accommodated 24 individual orangutans from state confiscations, handed over by communities and victims of conflict.
Forest schools are part of the orangutan rehabilitation program under the age of 5 years. Currently there are 9 orangutans registered in the forest school program. Furthermore, while locations where orangutans are ready to be released needs further evaluation, the Center for Orangutan Protection is building orangutan monitoring posts and operating pre-release islands.
To date, there have been five individual orangutans released after going through the Borneo COP orangutan rehabilitation program. The existence of the Borneo COP also helps the East Kalimantan BKSDA in handling orangutan conflicts and supports the enforcement of wildlife crime in the East Kalimantan region.
Borneo COP also involves the community in providing orangutan feed, helps tourism conscious villages through village ecotourism programs and conducts free village animal treatment by the COP medical team. The strategic location of Borneo COP covering East Kalimantan and North Kalimantan has become an important part of orangutan conservation in a rehabilitation program. LIMA TAHUN PUSAT PENYELAMATAN ORANGUTAN COP BORNEO
Program Pusat Penyelamatan Orangutan ini adalah kerja bersama antara Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam Kalimantan Timur dan Balai Besar Penelitian dan Pengembangan Ekosistem Hutan Dipterokarpa. Pembangunan infrastruktur dilakukan secara bertahap hingga menghasilkan 1 blok kandang karantina, 1 blok kandang sosialisasi, 1 blok kandang orangutan dewasa, 1 klinik, 1 mess karyawan, 1 dapur, 2 kamar mandi/wc dan 1 gudang buah. Sepanjang tahun 2014 hingga 2019, COP Borneo telah menampung 24 individu orangutan yang berasal dari sitaan negara, serahan masyarakat dan korban konflik.
Sekolah hutan adalah bagian dari program rehabilitasi orangutan yang berusia di bawah 5 tahun. Saat ini ada 9 orangutan yang terdaftar dalam program sekolah hutan. Selanjutnya kebutuhan pada lokasi dimana orangutan yang sudah siap untuk dilepasliarkan namun masih diperlukan evaluasi lebih dalam lagi, Centre for Orangutan Protection membangun pos monitoring orangutan dan mengoperasikan pulau pra-pelepasliaran.
Hingga saat ini, ada lima individu orangutan yang telah dilepasliarkan setelah melalui program rehabilitasi orangutan COP Borneo. Keberadaan COP Borneo juga membantu BKSDA Kaltim dalam penanganan konflik orangutan dan mendukung penegakkan hukum kejahatan satwa liar di wilayah Kalimantan Timur.
COP Borneo juga melibatkan masyarakat dalam pengadaan pakan orangutan, membantu desa sadar wisata melalui progam ekowisata kampung (ecotrip) dan melakukan pengobatan satwa desa gratis oleh tim medis COP. Lokasi COP Borneo yang sangat strategis mencakup Kalimantan Timur dan Kalimantan Utara telah menjadi bagian penting konservasi orangutan dalam program rehabilitasi. Semoga Program Penyelamatan Orangutan di Kalimantan Timur dapat terus berkelanjutan.
