NOVI OBSERVED BY APE GUARDIAN

After two weeks of Novi and Leci released, finally we found Novi tracks. Leftover and canopy openings lead the APE Guardian team, whose duty is monitoring the released orangutan, way to meet Novi. The team then recorded Novi’s behaviour every 5 minutes, no more per 10 minutes.

Filling out the form with 10 minutes interval was still lacking in showing the behaviour progress of the released orangutans. Starting on Nov 20, the team agreed to reduce the time interval in recording the orangutans behaviour from 10 minutes interval to 5 minutes interval. The team needs to be more focused on observing the orangutan’s behaviour and write it down.

“Leech attacks often disrupt our concentration, but the note-taking business still has to be done. What is Novi eating, on what kind of tree and what diameter of the tree he’s on and at what height he’s on, should be recorded properly. Our monitoring team’s duty is to ensure Novi can survive in nature after all these years being in the COP Borneo orangutan rehabilitation centre.”. said Reza Setiawan, coordinator of APE Guardian team.

Then, what about Leci? Since day one, after 3 hours of monitoring, Leci has had disappear from our view. “The lively Leci was like blending with the winds, soundless and trackless.”, said Widi, a volunteer of APE Guardian team with amazement. (SAR)

NOVI KEMBALI TERPANTAU APE GUARDIAN

(REZ)
